Job Description

Position Summary

Directs multiple groups in the planning, organizing, development, implementing, testing, and maintaining of product deliverables through the product lifecycle. This position coordinates with the Sr. VP of Product Development and with General Manger/Product Management to define product roadmaps and strategic directions. Directs a management team in resource management and department operations. Overall, this role provides technical direction for product development techniques, testing and construction!

Primary Responsibilities

  • Employee management including but not limited to sourcing, interviewing and hiring candidates for open positions, onboarding, establishing goals, assigning or delegating work, providing on-the-job training, giving guidance to staff, conducting performance evaluations, approving paid time-off (PTO), developing performance improvement plans, and taking disciplinary action.
  • Set technical and strategic direction for Product Development teams and Sr. Managers.
  • Defines department policies.
  • Acts as a mentor and trains management staff in people management.
  • Develops and modifies processes and methods; focus on continuous improvement.
  • Defines, executes and delivers on initiatives that expand across all of BIG-IP Engineering.
  • Drives department goals and communicates company vision across project teams.
  • Develops and manages operating budgets.
  • Develop and execute BIG-IP Product Development strategies that fulfill global market criteria and F5 corporate strategies.
  • Develop successful working relationship with customers, OEMs, Channel partners, and 3rd party vendors to ensure quality of services and deliverables, timely project completion, and company financial gains.
  • Researches, analyzes, and monitors the technology industry to capitalize on opportunities to minimize competitive activity and advancement.
  • Represent department as needed: including project teams, task forces, audits, business or technical meetings with internal or external groups.
  • Works to develop relationships with cross functional groups in BIG-IP Engineering, as well as other groups throughout the company to coordinate project goals and plans of execution.
  • Participate in continuous self-education in Engineering field (i.e., methodologies, tools) to keep abreast of industry direction and standards
  • Interacts internally and externally with executive level management, requiring negotiation of extremely critical matters. Influences policy making.
  • Responsible for upholding F5’s Business Code of Ethics and for promptly reporting violations of the Code or other company policies.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

  • Experience developing strategies for a global market.
  • Willingness and ability to adapt to new processes, ideas, and concepts.
  • Self-directed/self-motivated.
  • Ability to delegate.
  • Organized managerial work habits.
  • Demonstrated excellence in all written communications.
  • Duties are performed in various locations including: home, normal office environment while sitting at a desk or computer table.
  • Duties require the ability to utilize a computer, communicate over the telephone, and read printed material.
  • Duties may require being on call periodically or working outside normal working hours (evenings and weekends). Duties may require the ability to travel via automobile or airplane, approximately 10 % of the time spent traveling.
  • Job may be performed on-site at a customer facility or data center, or in an office environment sitting at a desk or computer table.

Qualifications

  • BS/MS in Computer Science or other Technical field; MBA preferred
  • 8+ years of experience in technical development
  • 5+ years of management experience in technical development
