The role:

The Senior Software Development Engineer, Quality position is about driving quality across our entire software engineering practice. You will spearhead our effort to make our code clean, sustainable, and reliable in support of our core tenet of long-term value (we are willing to sacrifice short-term revenues for long-term value). You’ll work with our growing Engineering department to evolve our testing tool sets, improve our reporting around product quality, and mentor our highly skilled engineers. You will seek out new quality methods and apply them to our applications while encouraging and engaging others to see the value and promise of these methods.

In this position you would work to understand the problems that other developers face around maintaining and improving quality, help come up with solutions, present those solutions to engineering as a whole, then work closely with the developers(your customers) to implement those solutions. You then continually look at feedback and improvements that can be made to those solutions. You actively code and look at other engineers' code to figure out issues. You actively create tools and frameworks to solve problems. You question existing tools, removing the less successful, and improving those that remain.

This position reports to our DevOps Engineering Manager.

If you were in this role last week, here are a few of the projects you would have worked on:

  • Strategized the overall test infrastructure to ensure our CI/CD releases are fast, high quality yet low friction for developers.
  • Worked on building out new test automation tool sets.
  • Mentored the development team with understanding contract testing, when and where to contract test, and how to write a good contract test.
  • Improved our CI/CD pipelines by integrating a Test Reporting system so that we can measure change.
  • Lead a brown bag on JUnit Testing Best practices (specifically around Unit testing Java Spring Beans).
  • Present stats and potential gains from various frameworks/method to technology leadership to influence long term quality direction.
  • Synced up with engineering team leaders to evaluate the pros and cons of specific testing options for specific applications/code/infra.
  • Used your positive influence to lift the engineering team’s knowledge of producing quality products.

To be effective in the Sr. Software Development Engineer, Quality role at Tango Card, you must have:

  • 5+ years experience shipping high quality software.
  • Proven experience building and testing scalable software.
  • A strong understanding of building test automation frameworks.
  • Experience in multiple testing types, including Unit, Integration, Contract, End-To-End, UX, and Performance testing.
  • Experience with OO server-side technologies including Java, Spring, Spring Boot or similar.
  • Experience with cloud-hosted software development environments (AWS, Azure, etc.).
  • Experience mentoring and advocating for quality.
  • BS in Computer Science OR equivalent experience.

Our ideal Sr. Software Development Engineer, Quality will also have some or most of the following:

  • Experience using performance testing tools like Locust.
  • A deep understanding of the ROI of different testing strategies.
  • Have worked on large-scale web initiatives, including stress testing.
  • Startup experience and/or working on projects in a SaaS/Cloud company.

What you'll get from us:

  • Competitive compensation package (money isn’t everything, but it helps)
  • Medical, Dental and Vision benefits (100% employer paid premium)
  • Unlimited PTO and a generous holiday schedule
  • 401(k) matching and equity opportunities, 401(k) 100% match of up to 6%
  • Home-Office grant for ensuring a great WFH environment during social distancing measures
  • Awarding winning culture that fosters autonomy, creativity, inclusion, transparency, and ownership
  • Continued education and self-growth opportunities through Udemy
  • Virtual-Fitness Benefits through Classpass
  • Dog-Friendly offices
  • #BI-Remote
