Due to COVID-19, Knock is currently operating as a remote company and all interviews will be conducted over phone or Zoom video calls. We plan to return to an office setting eventually, but that timeline has yet to be determined. When we do re-open our office, we will do so in a manner that is safe and comfortable for our employees and partners. We will continue to be remote-friendly for most employees and have opened up most of our positions to be either Seattle-based, hybrid office/work from home, or completely remote. It is also important to note that we are only able to hire employees who are based in the US.

The Role

We are looking for an Engineering Tech Lead/Manager who can provide technical oversight, mentorship and leadership to the engineers on the integrations team. You will partner closely with the integration product owner in order to balance the technical and product roadmaps with customer needs and expectations.

The Team

The Product and Engineering teams together consist of 40 talented and passionate team members, working to make Knock the premier software product in the Multifamily real estate industry. Our product covers a large surface - powering marketing automation, omni channel communications, AI bots, sales and renewal CRM, agent and self-guided touring, tenant screening, advanced business intelligence capabilities, and much more. We utilize an agile development process, and lean heavily on best practices around PR FAQ’s, PRD, UX research and usability testing, SDLC, etc. all to ensure we are maximizing product fit and execution.

The Integrations Team

We are the team that is responsible for integrating our product with multiple Property Management Systems. This critical piece of our infrastructure is a Tier 1 dependency in our SaSS product and provides two-way data sync for our flagship product, the Leasing Manager Application (LMA).

Our group is mostly backend developers, as a majority of our work involves data-pipelining, API calls to third parties, queue processing, and the gritty details of XML/Soap.

We split our time between maintaining integrations, production operations, and developing our new greenfield integration platform.

We are constantly navigating difficult challenges related to scaling our services, supporting other team's feature work, and trail blazing our continued move towards a Service Oriented Architecture.

The team’s challenge in 2021/2022 is the development of a new, greenfield integration platform in support of new products developed within our organization. This foundational growth signifies an exciting time, as we pioneer best practices, modern tooling and ensure that our platform can be extended as it continues to grow!

Day to Day

  • Be a developer advocate - make sure that team members are able to execute on engineering tasks and professional growth.
  • Be hands on - You will be team leader that leads by example and be hands on in the tech
  • Be a good partner - ensure the success of our integrations platform by coordinating with the product team counterpart to ensure timely delivery on the product roadmap.
  • Be an owner - Build and execute a technical roadmap for the integrations team; make sure technical design documentation is clear and complete.
  • Be the source of calm - provide management, technical oversight, mentorship and leadership to the team.

30 / 60 / 90 Day Expectations

  • 30 days - learn about Knock’s product, customer and architecture, participate in reviews, make thoughtful comments on developer work, do a project, participate as a member of the engineering leadership group, and meet with every product owner and tech lead.
  • 60 days - take ownership of the sprint process, make task assignments and drive technical decisions, form relationships with stakeholders on partner teams.
  • 90 days - establish ownership of the technical roadmap, drive long-term projects, and serve as a strong representative of the Integrations team to the rest of the company.

Basic Qualifications

  • Strong Communication skills (both with technical and non-technical stakeholders)
  • Deep experience as a backend software developer
  • Leadership experience as a Tech Lead or a Manager of a small team
  • Python, but also versed in multiple languages
  • Desired career path includes people management

Bonus

  • Big data experience
  • Real time bi-directional integrations experience

Why You'll Love It Here

  • You'll join a category-creating company that has enthusiastic customers, an ambitious roadmap, and industry leading products.
  • You are comfortable taking risks and thinking outside the box.
  • Being part of a great team with solid infrastructure in place.
  • You want an opportunity to win, drive change and be in an environment that will optimize for your success.

About Knock

We started Knock to solve problems we faced ourselves. One of those problems was that the process for renting an apartment hadn’t evolved at the same pace as technology. Our mission was to improve the experience for both apartment renters and managers.

We’ve developed an industry-defining SaaS platform, an intelligent front office platform providing the productivity and business intelligence tools needed to maximize occupancy, rent growth, and customer satisfaction at every community. Our customers trust us to deliver the consumer experiences and business applications that are essential to their bottom line. The proof is in our 10x revenue growth over the past two years, in addition to our numerous industry awards.

In February 2021 we raised an additional $20 million in a growth funding round led by Fifth Wall, the largest venture capital firm focused on the global real estate industry and the clear leader in PropTech investing. This investment, our largest fundraise to date, will be invested directly into further innovation on behalf of the awesome #multifamily industry: http://bit.ly/knock-5thwall
