Project Archer is an Augmented Reality studio based in the Seattle area. We are a team of engineers, designers, innovators and creators dedicated to paving the way for augmented reality applications in the retail space. Our focus is on functional use cases that merge diverse data streams and personalized information with specific physical locations to create productive and entertaining immersive real-world shopping experiences.

What you’ll do:

Technical Artists at Archer are passionate about the mix of art and science that goes into making amazing immersive real-time experiences. Technical artists will design, build, and operate key parts of the art pipeline to facilitate art production. They also develop, document, and troubleshoot real-time graphic techniques to bring maximum visual quality to our experiences while ensuring art assets meet performance, memory, and other technical requirements. Our technical artists are extremely versatile, able to recognize current and upcoming challenges, and design and implement solutions that keep the art team operating at maximum efficiency and effectiveness.


  • Partner with our art and engineering teams to identify existing, and create new tools, techniques, scripts, and plugins as needed using Unity, Maya/MEL, Zbrush, Blender, Substance Painter/Designer, Python, C#, or other content creation and scripting/coding systems to enable and streamline art workflows. 
  • Maintain and optimize existing asset pipelines based on art and engineering feedback and production metrics.
  • Document pipeline tools and instruct artists on usage and best practices.
  • Troubleshoot and triage problems and assist artists with tools and processes.
  • Assist in profiling and optimizing assets and scenes.
  • Author technical art assets such as animation state engines, real-time shaders, particle systems, dynamic simulations, etc.
  • Collaborate in the creation of graphic asset budgets and specifications. 
  • Research and maintain awareness of emerging tools and techniques. Develop and propose upgrade plans and where appropriate integrate newer methods and improvements.

What you’ll bring to the team:

  • Expert knowledge in one or more areas of technical art such as animation systems, rigging/weighting/retargeting, vertex/pixel/compute shaders, graphic optimization, particle and other VFX systems, MEL, Unity scripting, C#, etc.
  • Extensive knowledge of real-time asset creation and scene generation methods.
  • Experience shipping one or more titles or projects using Unity 3D.
  • Strong collaborative brainstorming/troubleshooting ability.
  • Desire to innovate and invent in a new medium.
  • Experience creating clear documentation and technical specs.

Bonus points:

  • AR/VR and/or video game experience.
  • Low poly character and hard-surface modeling & texturing skills.
  • Mobile platform experience.
  • Experience as an Animator.
