Ookla, the company behind Speedtest, is a hard-working, fun-loving team of passionate individuals who have turned a clever idea into a unique product and thriving business. Globally, millions of tests are performed every day across the Speedtest ecosystem on the web, desktop and mobile apps, embedded in routers and deployed in thousands of servers.

We are looking for a highly capable engineer to join our software engineering team and ensure that Ookla remains the global leader in Internet testing. You will be responsible for validating the accuracy of our solutions, and pushing the limits of what they are capable of, so that we retain the trust of both consumers and service providers.

You will test the tools we use to test the Internet! And not only latency and bandwidth, but other less obvious characteristics of both fixed and wireless networking technologies, such as jitter, packet loss, route selection or signal strength.

You love to test. You want to make a better Internet for everyone. You already use Ookla’s tools to check your broadband or mobile data performance, now you have a chance to be a part of the team that produces them.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure correctness, accuracy and completeness of Ookla's suite of network measuring solutions, both in SDKs and end-user applications, on all platforms
  • Measure, understand and communicate the capabilities and limitations of those solutions on commonly available networking solutions as well as emerging cutting-edge technologies
  • Understand all measurement types and evangelize their significance on networking and application performance, as well as end-user quality of experience
  • Drive quality assurance for new feature development, prevent regressions and push quality upstream
  • Work closely with the technical leaders to develop the best designs for testing functionality at scale
  • Develop and execute test plans, strategies and processes, design and develop test tools, debug and report issues in concert with business and project management efforts
  • Manage testing equipment, environments, labs, test suites and frameworks

Requirements

  • 5+ years of software development or software testing experience
  • Strong understanding of networking fundamentals (IP, TCP, UDP, HTTP, TLS, WebSocket)
  • Experience implementing automated test solutions
  • Experience writing unit, integration, load and stress tests
  • Proficiency with collaborative development workflows (source control, branches, PRs) and continuous integration practices
  • Excellent debugging and troubleshooting skills
  • Strong time management skills and a self driven work ethic

Preferred

  • Embedded development, with toolchains and cross compilation
  • Contributed to Open Source projects.

Benefits

Ookla has great benefits including competitive compensation, medical, dental and vision benefits for you and your family, a generous vacation and holiday plan, stand out maternity/paternity leave and more. We also provide the best hardware, software and tools available for you to do your work.
