JOB SUMMARY

Code.org is looking for a Vice President of Development to manage fundraising operations for Code.org. In this new role you will manage and grow a small team of fundraisers to create, implement, and manage strategies for sustainable growth. Reporting to the CEO, you will help establish fundraising strategies and measurable goals to increase fundraising results that are both aspirational and achievable. 

In this role, you will be responsible for: 

• Managing the fundraising team and all of Code.org’s fundraising activities 

• Hiring new team members to expand the development capacity of the organization

• Actively engaging with individuals, corporations, foundations, and our Board, to create and manage long-term partnerships and strengthen existing relationships

• Persuasively communicating Code.org’s mission and programs to potential funders

• Actively growing the pipeline of opportunities beyond Code.org’s current donor base

• Establishing processes and tools to manage the pipeline of new and existing donors

• Supporting the team in developing and writing inquiries, grant proposals and reports to foundations, corporations, and other grant-making organizations

• Working closely with the Director of Marketing to manage donor communications

SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS

We are looking for a strategic thinker who is analytical, results driven, and highly organized. You should have a talent for building relationships and a proven track record in securing funds; 5-10 years of relevant experience is required.

To be successful in this role, you should also have: 

• An incredible passion for our mission and an ability to inspire others to get involved

• Experience leading a fundraising organization or effort that has raised $10M / year or more

• Demonstrated ability to develop funding proposals in a clear and compelling manner and a track record of securing multiple $500k or larger gifts from corporate and foundation funders, including multi-year commitments

• Outstanding communication, networking, and interpersonal skills with the ability to be persuasive in both written and verbal communications, including public speaking and the ability to communicate the vision, goals and impact of Code.org

• The ability to maintain professionalism and confidentiality in sensitive, complex and/or controversial situations

• Experience managing a team

• A solid understanding of budgets as they relate to proposals and grants

• Strong and thoughtful customer service orientation

• Experience with establishing and maintaining a donor database in a system such as Salesforce.

• Experience managing processes for pipeline development, prospecting, cultivation, and stewardship of donors

• While our team is currently not traveling, the person in this role should have the ability to travel up to 30% time (based on location) and flexibility to work nontraditional hours when needed
