Analyst, Indirect Tax


The Analyst, Indirect Tax will support Expedia Group’s growing Domestic Indirect Tax Operations Team. Expedia Group, Inc. is an online travel company, empowering business and leisure travelers through technology with the tools and information they need to efficiently research, plan, book, and experience travel.


What you'll do:

  • Coordinate, prepare, and review various state and local U.S. indirect sales and lodging tax returns with external service provider, utilizing technology solutions such as Alteryx and UIPath to efficiently handle large compliance data sets

  • Utilize Vertex and AvaTax to meet compliance filing obligations

  • Apply your sales tax knowledge to proactively identify, review and implement changes that ensure the accuracy and completeness of Expedia’s compliance obligations

  • Support the various states’ exemption certificate management requirements

  • Collaborate with other business groups to understand the tax impact of business operations and ensure accurate liabilities are addressed

  • Perform research and analysis and apply applicable laws to Expedia’s indirect tax obligations. Communicate and implement findings and resolutions with various internal and external partners

  • Coordinate, review, and prepare business property tax data with external partners. Coordinate timely payment of property tax payments

  • May also perform indirect tax project work as required on a variety of business advisory, financial reporting, and transactional tax data projects

  • Work as an integral part of the tax team to assist with the overall duties to accomplish the goals of the team


Who you are:

  • Excellent researcher and problem-solver, able to analyze, compare, evaluate, and reconcile large tax datasets

  • Possess knowledge of basic sales and use tax rules, regulations, and concepts and the ability to apply rules and concepts to various compliance processes

  • Knowledgeable in basic property tax filing obligations

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to explain tax concepts to individuals who do not possess knowledge of tax compliance matters

  • Able to prioritize and manage multiple tasks within a restrictive due date delivery timeframe

  • Self-starter and diligent problem solver

  • Phenomenal teammate willing to assist in any capacity needed

  • Thrives and desires to work in a dynamic workspace and has the ability and willingness to accept internal and external feedback and change any course of action

  • Prefers to drive and/or embrace change

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office with an emphasis in handling large data sets in Excel

  • Experience or a desire to learn basic SQL and Automation tools such as UIPath, Tableau, and Alteryx

  • Have a collaborative and collegial professional demeanor

  • BA/BS degree in accounting or related field

  • CPA license or actively working towards attainment is a plus, but not a required

  • Masters in tax or accounting is a plus, but not required

  • 1+ years of tax experience in a corporate tax department or public accounting firm a plus
