Role Description 

In this role you’ll work with clients in venture capital realm in performing ASC 820 valuations of their portfolio companies on a quarterly basis by onboarding the portfolio company’s specific capitalization and financial information into the Carta platform and using our valuation software to perform a market driven analysis of the company. As an ASC 820 Valuation Analyst, you will be involved in multiple concurrent projects from the initial kick-off call through the end of the client’s audit. In addition to working with clients, you will work closely with our engineering and product teams in developing and testing new software features.

In completing ASC 820 Valuations, you will gain a strong understanding of many emerging markets and how investors assess company performance in these industries. In times when your workload is light, you will have the opportunity to help other Analysts and Associates, exposing you to additional clients, industries, and valuation approaches you may otherwise be exposed to. 

Our workflow is fairly cyclical and in down times, you will have the opportunity to attend training conferences or expand your knowledge of valuation through extracurricular projects assigned by your manager, such as complex waterfall calculations or the preparation of external publications discussing Carta’s stance on the recently released working draft AICPA guidance.

Responsibilities 

  • Manage several projects in different stages of the valuation process simultaneously 
  • Monitor client data collection and communicate any missing pieces to the client and the Carta manager on the project
  • Onboard new portfolio company capitalization structures or recent rounds of financing to the Carta platform and review existing structures
  • Determine the most appropriate valuation methodology and allocation method given company historic and future performance, market trends, and assumed exit timing and strategy
  • Prepare audit defensible ASC 820 valuations that are inline with the client’s internal valuation policy
  • Answer questions received from the client’s auditor in regards to the Carta valuation process and the valuations prepared for the client

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in finance or accounting or comparable work experience
  • Experience working in a fast paced environment while managing multiple deliverables
  • Aptitude for learning quickly and high attention to detail
  • Basic understanding of excel

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience working in accounting or finance
  • Exposure to the world of private equity investments
  • Understanding of private market capitalization structures
  • Understanding of intermediate excel calculations and HTML
  • Exposure CapitalIQ, both the website and the excel plug-in
