As the Director of Global Payments, you will be leading and managing Avalara’s global payment processing in support of a variety of Global tax remittance products and services.   The Global Payments team is responsible for ensuring that all payment services and features are delivered in alignment with Avalara’s service strategy, including collaborating with leadership to meet strategic goals.

This role includes strategy development, planning and governance for a high performing team of payment specialists, across multiple payment products and services.

 

Job Summary

As the Director of Global Payments, you will be leading and managing Avalara’s expanding client tax remittance processes and delivering world class tax payment automation for global payments across a variety products and services.   Responsible for ensuring that all global payment services and identified controls are delivered in alignment with Avalara’s Global Client Payment policies and procedures, including collaborating with leadership to meet strategic goals. You will be partnering and collaborating closely with bank partners, business development, product, compliance, engineering, finance, customer support and others in the customer and partner journey model to deliver success.

 

Job Duties:

The general responsibilities for this position will focus on Global client tax payment operations, in addition to accounting, automation, innovation and integration with financial institutions.  

  • Leads, inspires and ensures appropriate ownership and accountability in a highly operational and analytical payments organization.
  • Leads across functions (to Business Development, Engineering, Sales, Service, Operations) to identify opportunities and implement change throughout the organization.
  • Responsible for the management of the monthly accounting and booking processes (ensure financials for the global client payments accounts are performed, reconciled, and variance researched).
  • Responsible for accurate and timely Client Tax Funding and Tax Payment procedures and policies.
  • Responsible for the management and resolution of AR/AP Accounts.
  • Responsible for the integration of new systems and services.
  • Responsible for driving effective and scalable payment processing approaches across products, market segments and business units through automation and process improvements. The Global Payments leadership team will create a One Avalara treasury services that ensures the development, communication, control and execution of project plans in a consistent manner.
  • Responsible for leadership and managing the monthly Global Funding and Payments cycles across multiple business units and systems
  • Provide strategic planning to streamline and automate payments to all US and Canadian Jurisdictions
  • Develops strong business relationships with high profile, high revenue customers to ensure a strong, long-term relationship with Avalara
  • Provides strategic oversight and direct involvement in maintaining effective business relationships with the aligned Senior Compliance, Finance and Engineering Leaders
  • Responsible for Projects that are related to any Global Payment initiatives

 

Qualifications:

  • Undergraduate degree, prefer Accounting or Finance (MBA is preferred).
  • 8 + years finance, payment processing and or banking experience.
  • 6 + years of operational management experience.
  • 6 + years leadership experience.
  • 2-4 years customer service/communication experience preferred.
  • Demonstrated work experience in the areas of treasury operations, accounting, data analysis, and problem solving.
  • Successful experience leading a high performing team in a high-volume Treasury or Accounting organizations.
  • Strategic thinker with ability to assess current situation and future trends and bridge the gap.
  • Demonstrates a sense of urgency to overcome obstacles and achieve measurable results.
  • Able to demonstrate accuracy and composure under tight deadlines
  • Ability to create reconciliations, reporting and analysis utilizing excel, sql or any internal tools.
  • Ability to present complicated and highly sensitive information to leadership.
  • Must possess advanced MS Excel modeling and be capable to marry technical and business level input and support on a daily basis
  • Aptitude or ability to utilize data mining software/tools (e.g. Monarch, Tableau, SQL, Micro Strategy, etc.) is highly desired
