The Job

Tango Card is seeking a passionate finance leader for the Director of Payments and Accounting Operations role to lead the strategic vision and day-to-day operation of our Accounts Receivable, Customer Payments, and Customer Accounting teams.

You'll love this role because it is not your typical accounting role. You will partner with internal and external stakeholders to ensure customers are transacting friction-free and all transactions are accounted for accurately on Tango Card’s financials.

We're seeking someone who has a successful track record of building, cultivating, and developing teams of inspired, resourceful, and knowledgeable accounting professionals. If you possess a deep understanding of GL accounting, you pride yourself on being a business operator, a strategic problem solver, an excellent communicator, and have a curiosity about FinTech, payments, and the digitization of financial services, we’d love to hear from you!

You will be successful at Tango Card if:

  • You can see the big-picture when problems arise, and champion your team to do the same.
  • You thrive in a customer-centric environment and enjoy helping people in written and verbal forms of communication.
  • You’re a true maven when it comes to account reconciliation. You enjoy developing processes to streamline functions and have a deep understanding of GL accounting
  • You're someone that likes to be at the forefront and plugged into all departments.
  • You enjoy implementing automation at every chance you get in order to reduce transactional tasks, so you can focus on more value-added services.

You will not be successful at Tango Card if you are:

  • You’d rather work independently and not directly with customers or internal stakeholders.
  • Your experience lies solely within Accounts Receivable.
  • FinTech platforms do not excite you and you don’t have an interest in learning more.

Essential Functions & Responsibilities

As a Director of Payments and Accounting Operations at Tango Card, you will:

  • Supervise, support, and train Accounting Managers and members of the AR and Customer Accounts team with a focus on accurate and timely recording, and reporting, of customer transactions.
  • Act as the primary resource to our Customer Success team for Customer transaction questions, which includes being available for customer calls, facilitating and handling ad hoc customer questions, prioritizing requests from the Customer Success team with the Customer Accounts team, and providing clear responses about questions on customer transactions.
  • Provide strategic direction for the AR, customer payments, and customer accounting teams as they evolve to meet the future needs of our customers.
  • Ensure all customer account balances are accurate and reconcile between Tango Card’s reward delivery platform and ERP system.
  • Coordinate and handle reconciliations for all customer accounts. This includes developing a process for, and carrying out, continuous customer account audits to help ensure a clear, timely, and accurate view of customer account balances.
  • Own and execute management of margin share, including the configuration of new agreements and processing monthly calculations.
  • Monitor A Raging and effectively use the Accounts Receivable team to ensure accuracy and follow up on outdated items.
  • Continuously champion process improvements as it relates to customer funding, transaction recording, and account reconciliation.
  • Provide strategic direction to help focus company efforts on automating and improving the customer experience.
  • Assist with ad hoc projects and analysis requested by the Sr. Director of Accounting and CFO, as needed.

To be effective as the Director of Payments and Accounting Operations at Tango Card, you must have the following education and experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Business (Finance focus preferred but not required)
  • 8+ years of proven ability as an accounting/finance leader
  • 3+ years of experience supervising a high-volume transaction environment
  • Experience with enterprise reporting systems and data manipulation

Our ideal Director of Payments and Accounting Operations at Tango Card will have most of the following knowledge, skills, and experience:

  • Skilled in creating impactful teams and scaling accounting processes
  • Eager to define and follow success metrics
  • Skilled in verbal and written communication
  • Genuine excitement to form relationships with both internal and external stakeholders in order to provide customer service that aligns with our company mission
  • Ability to meet project targets, analyze and tackle problems, and adapt to change when needed
  • Deep knowledge of GL accounting
  • Prior experience with ERPs (Netsuite) and fintech platforms is a plus!
  • Proficient with payment networks like Fedwire, ACH, SWIFT, as well as payment processors, including credit card payments

Please note: visa sponsorship is not available for this position.
