Skilljar is seeking a Payroll Manager to join our fast-growing team. The ideal candidate will be an expert in the area of payroll, compliance and payroll systems. They will support our high-growth trajectory and will work closely with our Controller to help Skilljar achieve our goals.

This role will perform complex administrative and accounting responsibilities required to process payroll for exempt and non-exempt employees in a multi-state environment. This individual will work cross-functionally with other teams to ensure that we have a scalable process in place to manage Skilljar’s payroll and compliance while the organization continues to rapidly grow.

We’re looking for a motivated, self-starter who is comfortable wearing multiple hats and thrives in a dynamic environment. You must be nimble, highly-collaborative, and able to think on your feet. Responsibilities

  • Lead all aspects of full cycle processing of semi-monthly US payroll to ensure accurate and timely payroll reporting
  • Review, develop, document and implement payroll policies, key financial controls and standard operating procedures
  • Understand and administer the complexities of multi-state payrolls to ensure compliance with company policies and procedures and regulations in multiple jurisdictions
  • Manage implementations and integrations for payroll systems
  • Research and advise on complex payroll related functions, systems, legislation and IRS regulations
  • Assist with administration of leave of absences
  • Assist in month-end close processes, including preparation of journal entries, reconciliations and account analysis
  • Assist in ad-hoc duties as assigned

Requirements

  • Minimum of 5 years of professional experience working with multi-state payroll
  • Comprehensive knowledge of payroll laws and payroll tax regulations
  • Ability to work independently and as a team member in a time critical environment a must
  • Experience with Gusto, ADP and NetSuite preferred
  • Payroll system implementation experience a plus
  • Excellent communication, organization and analytical skills
  • Ability to interact professionally across all departments and functionalities within the organization
