Position Summary:
The Senior Payroll Tax Specialist will be responsible for activities ensuring payroll tax compliance and will be the primary liaison between our 3rd party payroll tax provider (currently ADP) and government tax agencies.  This position will also assist and work with the Payroll Specialist to ensure timely and accurate completion of all pay cycles.
 
Key Responsibilities Include:

  • Drives assigned payrolls to timely and accurate completion through analysis, audit, reconciliation and resolution of complex payroll processing and employee payroll issues.
  • Researches and interprets federal and state regulatory requirements and resolves tax, withholding, garnishment, and wage/hour issues for payroll processing.
  • Responds to auditing and regulatory inquiries. 
  • Responsible for daily monitoring of agency notices or ADP issues and other tax-related requests and correspondence.
  • Maintain State Unemployment Insurance and Workers Compensation rates
  • Maintain current knowledge of payroll tax laws. Ensure compliance with federal, state and provincial guidelines and resolve any compliance issues through research and correspondence with taxing authorities.
  • Performs quarterly and annual balancing of wage and tax reports. Finds and corrects errors in a timely manner to ensure accuracy of payroll tax withholding, minimizing potential penalties.
  • File quarterly and annual State, Provincial and Federal returns and make timely remittances as required.
  • Reconcile and ensure accuracy of W2/W2-c and T4s.
  • Receives and responds timely to telephone, e-mail inquiries and mail. Provides high quality service to employees and effectively resolves employee issues.
  • Serve as back up to Payroll Accountant, preparing payroll journal entries and reconciling payroll related accounts.
  • Complete assigned projects to create efficiencies and improvements of overall payroll processing

 
Desired Qualifications

  • 8+ years payroll processing and payroll tax experience performing all functions of payroll and tax.
  • Excellent customer service skills with an ability to effectively handle and resolve employee inquiries and issues. 
  • Excellent skills using MS Word and Excel. 
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise extreme discretion. Demonstrated high degree of professionalism and integrity. 
  • Excellent problem solving/judgment skills, and high level of attention to detail and accuracy.  
  • Strong organizational skills, and the ability to work under pressure.
  • Ability to handle and prioritize multiple tasks and meet all deadlines.

  • Energetic and highly motivated, with the tendency to be flexible and excel in a fast-paced environment
  • Superior written and oral communication skills, as well as the ability to effectively interact with different levels of management
  • Ability to partner and collaborate across different company disciplines
