The treasury team is a core part of Remitly’s business, as it is tied to both revenue generation and risk mitigation. The goal of the team is to support the mission of Remitly by managing risk, providing superior foreign exchange execution, and optimizing our use of capital to deliver on our promise to immigrants sending money across the world. Our treasury strategy has 3 pillars: Risk Management, Foreign Exchange Management, and Capital Optimization. The treasury team works very closely with several other functions, including the pricing team who is tasked with setting the price (FX rate and fees charged) for each product, the business development team who negotiates the relationships with international banks and disbursement partners, compliance, and accounting.
The ideal candidate is a strong leader experienced in building and growing global teams who is passionate about fostering strong business partner relationships and is also comfortable rolling up his/her sleeves to execute. The Treasurer will manage the current treasury team and will report directly to Remitly’s CFO. This position will be based in the company headquarters in Seattle, WA.
What you’ll be doing:
- Create the vision for Remitly’s treasury organization, including the top strategic priorities and success metrics
- Lead a global treasury team with near 24/7 operations including three existing functions
- Cash Management - Oversee the projection of liquidity needs and the daily execution of funds transfers including wires, bank accounts, investments, etc
- Trading Operations - Oversee the execution and optimization of $7B+ annual currency trades within risk frameworks
- Treasury Strategy - Oversee the evaluation of trading strategies, operational policies, and other optimizations to increase FX spreads or mitigate risk
- Empower your team, and where necessary roll up your sleeves to identify and hit treasury performance metrics including trade execution efficiency, managing risk through net positions/ exposures, and FX gains and losses to identify areas of improvement
- Identify and execute on process and systems improvements
- Work with product management and engineering to build proprietary treasury tools to improve access to data and increase operational efficiency
- Build and maintain relationships with corporate banks, lenders, and global remittance partners. Assist with negotiations on bank fees and FX spreads and ensure contractual terms are met.
- Ensure compliance with regulatory and credit requirements
- Serve as the company expert on treasury and FX matters internally, with the Board/ audit committee, and with investors
- Coordinate/liaise with teams across Remitly including pricing, accounting, compliance, business development and product/ engineering teams
Who we are looking for:
- Leadership/ relationships:
- Experience building and leading a world-class treasury team and infrastructure in a high growth, fast paced, global environment
- Proven success leading through change and ambiguity; strong people development skills
- Excellent at partnering with other functions in a matrixed organization and with external constituents (corporate banking partners, trading partners etc.)
- Treasury experience:
- Experience managing foreign currency trading
- Treasury operations expertise in a high volume, high velocity environment (payments or FinTech ideal)
- Skills and aptitudes:
- Strong problem solving and analytical skills with a data-driven approach
- Entrepreneurial mindset, with experience building and improving capabilities and processes
- Aptitude to articulate business needs, determine appropriate levels of risk, and formulate clear recommendations to stakeholders including senior management and the audit committee
- Executive presence including strong written and verbal communication skills
- Negotiation skills
- Advanced degree in finance related field preferred
