Position Summary:

The Benefits Manager is part of the Benefits & People Data team within the People Operations department. Our benefits philosophy is to strive to offer a comprehensive and choice-based benefits package that will support and enhance the physical, financial, and emotional wellbeing of our diverse team members and their family (two-, three-, and four-legged). This Seattle-based position will report to the Director of Benefits & People Data and help us achieve our philosophy by being responsible for the implementation, administration, and user experience of benefits offered to Trupanion team members in the United States and Canada.

Key Responsibilities Include:

  • Provide support for the day-to-day management and administration of Trupanion’s team member benefit programs, including health insurance plans, disability insurance, life insurance, workers compensation, paid time off and leave programs, child care, retirement plans, employee discount programs, and employer-sponsored team member assistance programs (personal and financial).
  • Track market and industry trends to assess and make innovative recommendations that keep Trupanion’s benefit packages market competitive.
  • Analyze and evaluate services, coverage, and options available through insurance and investment companies to determine if programs are meeting the needs of the organization finding opportunities for innovation and improvement.
  • Prepare and communicate information about benefit programs, procedures, changes, and government-mandated disclosures to team members and former team members.
  • Serve as the primary contact for benefit partners and vendors.
  • Coordinate transfer of benefits related data to internal partners and external vendors, plan providers, auditors, etc., keeping a critical eye on user experience and looking for ways to make process improvements.
  • Ensure compliance of team member benefits programs with all legal requirements; may partner with Director of Benefits & People Data and legal counsel to ensure that policies comply with federal and state/provincial laws in the U.S. and Canada.
  • Reconcile benefits accounts by approving billing statements.
  • Manage, coach and mentor members of the Trupanion Benefits team.
  • Participate in broader People Operations team initiatives to enhance the team member experience at Trupanion.

Qualifications (Please include a cover letter with your application!)

Education & Experience:

  • Must be pet-passionate and able to consistently model Trupanion’s Team Member DNA
  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administrations, Human Resource Management or applicable field is required or the equivalent combination of education and experience
  • 5+ years of progressive experience in professional benefits roles
  • 2+ years of team leadership experience
  • Experience in various HRIS and Payroll systems, as well as system transitions and implementations
  • Experience managing benefits programs in both the U.S. and Canada
  • Preferred experience managing benefits programs outside of North America

Skills, Knowledge & Abilities:

  • Proven expertise in building relationships with business leaders to better understand their needs and offer relevant benefit solutions
  • Create strong relationships with vendor partners to ensure we are providing the right solutions and customer support to our team members
  • Leverage data, analytics, and feedback to create recommendations and influence change
  • Fiscally responsible with our benefit dollars,
  • Effectively communicate complex benefits information to all team members
