The Role:

Tango Card and why we are seeking a unique Chief People Officer

Tango Card is a recognized leader in the rewards and incentives industry. Eleven years ago, we recognized an opportunity to modernize, improve, and advance this $150B industry. We offer digital incentives -- primarily digital gift cards -- to business customers with a focus on user-friendly technologies, an impactful reward catalog, and best-in-industry service. Tango Card has grown consistently since our inception, today approaching $1B in annual rewards and incentives.

Our Founder and Leadership Team believe a fundamental component of our success is due to our values, culture, and character -- major differentiators that have helped us thrive. As our company continues accelerating even in an external environment offering plenty of challenges, we want to sustain our focus on people and proactively evolve, too.

Today, the company has about 170 employees (which we call Tangocardians) across three physical offices in Seattle, Boise, and Omaha – though almost all of us have been working from home since early 2020. This year, our journey includes rolling out multiple people-focused programs, adding an office in the Seattle area, and increasing our team size with more people than ever before. We also have outlined how our own leadership team can evolve to meet our growth plans, and we acknowledge and seek a partner to help us navigate a range of complex issues given the company’s stage and size.

We are looking for a special Chief People Officer that wants to help us meet our opportunities head on – a CPO with a real passion for people and this discipline, an ability to truly connect with the Founder and Leadership Team to understand the values, character, and culture we want to create, someone who can influence and advance who we are, and the right person to engage, challenge, and grow Tangocardians and the Leadership Team.

As the Chief People Officer at Tango Card, you’ll have an impact on:

> Talent Management

  • Help Tango Card develop a sustainable competitive advantage, both through talent acquisition and also development of top talent. Let’s reach and keep those people who possess capabilities to help the company win in the marketplace.
  • Develop a strategy to integrate DEI into the selection process
  • Lead and guide Organizational Design at Tango Card, including identifying how our teams should evolve to support our growth goals
  • Develop plans to strengthen each team by promoting internal talent and attracting fresh external talent
  • Establish clear paths for employees to advance in their careers. Ensure that levels are consistent across all teams, and that job titles are used to reward the employee’s accomplishments in addition to clearly conveying the role’s responsibilities.

> Values, Character, and Culture Development

  • Establish clear and safe ways for Tangocardians to share their criticisms, suggestions, and concerns
  • As appropriate, partner with the Leadership Team as a group to promote improvement in key areas or work with individual team members to resolve important team and people related issues directly
  • Lead our DEI program to transform our culture into a more diverse, inclusive environment where everyone can thrive. Understand why we have taken certain steps and strengthen our efforts to integrate DEI into the company culture and processes
  • Be a trusted partner and an advisor to each Leadership Team member. Work with leaders on improving their team as well as themselves.
  • Be a firm and independent voice at the Leadership Team level that advocates for our values and culture

> HR Operations

  • Onboarding new employees in a work-from-home environment is a unique challenge. Develop a strategy for Tango Card to be exceptional in supporting new employees through a smooth onboarding process, and in supporting tenured employees who are struggling with WFH.
  • Proactively assess Tango Card’s compensation to ensure we are competitive for our stage and size. Additionally, propose changes in areas well in advance of us having to take action so we can understand the strategic and financial impact of our decisions.
  • Ensure HR functions such as payroll, benefits, talent acquisition, and employee experience are managed effectively

To be effective in our Chief People Officer role, you’ll need:

  • A minimum 10 years of in HR management and three years as the Head of HR
  • Demonstrated HR experience in a high growth technology company in a similar stage as Tango Card ($25M to $100M revenue with a team of 150-500)
  • Outstanding interpersonal, coaching and listening skills with the ability to communicate with all levels of the company
  • Ability to remain impartial, discrete and firm in challenging conversations
  • Ability to develop meaningful and trusting relationships with the Leadership Team and employees
  • Graduate degree in Human Resources, business administration, or related field
  • HR certification required (ex: SPHR or SHRM–SCP)

What you'll get from us:

  • Competitive compensation package (money isn’t everything, but it helps)
  • Medical, Dental and Vision benefits (100% employer paid premium)
  • Unlimited PTO and a generous holiday schedule
  • 401(k) matching and equity opportunities, 401(k) 100% match of up to 6%
  • Home-Office grant for ensuring a great WFH environment during social distancing measures
  • Awarding winning culture that fosters autonomy, creativity, inclusion, transparency, and ownership
  • Virtual-Fitness Benefits through Classpass
  • Dog-Friendly offices

A note about our greater Seattle Metro area role:

Currently due to COVID requirements, our offices are temporarily closed and we are all working remotely. As our offices begin to reopen (which we're hopeful for possibly mid-this year) we're looking forward to fully regaining and resetting the talents and connections of our incredible Leadership Team, which includes this role. Given the nature and capacity of responsibility of this role, including depth of partnership and presence required, we are seeking someone who resides within the greater Seattle Metro area. This allows for ease and flexibility in partnering closely with the Seattle HQ-based Leadership Team. It also provides strategic, in-person support across a variety of responsibilities, as the business needs it (ex: running into the office is not a problem, no arranging travel required). This role will also have flexibility in a mix of working from home, and from the office.
