This position is a key resource for implementing all aspects of Avalara’s global compensation programs and providing partnership and support to the Director, Total Rewards, HR Systems and the global HR team. This position also provides professional expertise to company leaders and managers in order to leverage programs that meet business and corporate objectives. The Compensation & Equity Analyst will analyze current practice, best practice and alternative solutions, modify and implement programs and processes as well as administer the programs, policies and practices such as base pay, incentive, and equity programs. The Compensation & Equity Analyst is a hands-on role that encompasses tactical execution of day-to-day work, as well as global projects within HR and cross-functionally.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Modify, implement and communicate global compensation and salary administration programs.
  • Provide recommendations for compensation strategy, incentive plans, programs, and procedures.
    • Work with global and regional teams to ensure compensation processes are documented and adhered to.
    • Review requests for new or revised jobs or classifications to determine appropriate salary grade assignment.
    • Prepares and maintains documentation as well as regularly updates and distributes documents to HR team as appropriate
    • Recommend and conduct salary surveys in order to understand competitive compensation levels in the organization and market.
    • Support executive compensation design, analysis, and administration
    • Provide ongoing workforce analysis and assist with developing and maintaining a variety of HR reporting metrics as needed.
    • Supports the annual salary planning and incentive processes.
    • Conduct the calculation, preparation, approval, communication and payment of company bonus and incentive plans.

 

  • Partner with Director Total Rewards, sales, finance and other departments to lead the development of incentive compensation plan designs and assure model validation and alignment with goals, develop the communication plans and tools to measure attainment against plan.
  • Conduct job analysis and evaluation of all position levels (including appropriate title, position level, pay and incentive level, job code, EEO and FLSA classification, etc.); audit evaluation of positions and application of existing positions. Ensures the compensation structure remains up to date in the HR System.
  • Understand, analyze and present data around compensation best practices and trends. Forecast potential outcomes and cost impact, including building financial models involving complex analysis.
  • Assure through audits, analysis and reports, that all compensation programs are consistently administered in compliance with company policies and government regulations and maximize workforce productivity and efficiency.
  • Assists in the development and administration of the organization’s equity compensation program
    • Works cross-functionally with other business groups and external vendors as it relates to equity programs.
  • Assists in the creation of communication materials and presentations to support analysis, and implementation of programs.
  • Prepares and maintains documentation as well as regularly updates and distributes documents to HR team as appropriate
  • Stays informed of legislative activities and regulatory changes and evaluates impact to compensation programs especially as it relates to global stock compensation programs including the employee stock purchase plan.

Qualification and Required Skills

 

  • Bachelor’s degree in related field or equivalent experience required
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in broad-based compensation, executive compensation and/or equity program design and administration
  • Strong analytical and quantitative skills
  • Highly detail driven with emphasis on accuracy, coupled with an ability to see the broader picture.
  • Certified Compensation Professional (CCP) or CCP coursework preferred
  • Must have a can-do attitude, the ability to prioritize workload and perform multiple tasks under accelerated deadlines
  • Self-starter and able to work well and communicate effectively in a team environment
  • Strong consultation skills and the ability to seek out information and provide quality advice
  • Experience working with Microsoft Office Suite, including Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, and advanced Excel skills
  • Ability to manage ambiguity and changing priorities in a fast-paced environment
