Your Role and Impact

Reporting to the Deputy General Counsel, you will support the Legal team’s efforts in a wide array of projects and responsibilities, including leading legal support of our clinical operations, physician services, credentialing, employment issues, intellectual property management and a variety of other domains. This includes working cross-functionally with key stakeholders in sales, finance, marketing and product. This role is critical to ensuring the business success of a rapidly-growing healthcare technology start-up. 

Responsibilities

  • Advise on risks and liabilities of proposed clinic operations, physician liability and commercial transactions and devise creative and practical legal solutions to meet business objectives
  • Conduct research, draft internal guidance documents and train company on key issues
  • Keep informed of applicable and emerging laws, regulations and industry guidance that impact clinical operations, behavioral health, primary care, pediatrics and associated quality improvement/patient safety program requirements, credentialing, physician practice standards, malpractice and employment-related issues
  • Support 98point6 People Operations in employment agreement interpretation, template maintenance, employee handbook and assorted employment issues, including investigations
  • Advise company on compliance with Anti-Kickback, Stark Law, fee-splitting laws, the Affordable Care Act and a range of other laws affecting employee benefits, health plans and other potential channels
  • Advise company on privacy laws, including HIPAA, CCPA and GDPR where they intersect with projects
  • Facilitate intellectual property initiatives with Legal team and outside counsel, and support establishment of best practices to protect intellectual property internally
  • Support evaluation of new business opportunities and regulatory implications at federal and state level, including insurance regulations, consumer protection regulations and other issues within the healthcare landscape

Qualifications

  • JD and licensed to practice law in at least one state
  • 5+ years relevant experience 
  • 2+ years in-house experience preferred
  • Experience working with physicians, physician practice groups and medical support staff preferred
  • Experience working with healthcare institutions, insurers or benefits within large employers preferred
