About Assurance

Assurance IQ is a technology company headquartered in Seattle. We were acquired by Prudential (NYSE: PRU) to further the joint mission of improving financial wellness across the world.

Our team of world class software engineers, data scientists, and business professionals work every day to expand our product offerings and the reach of our platform. We simplify the complex world of insurance and financial services into straightforward, valuable solutions to improve people's lives. We start by asking customers a few questions, so our system can learn about their needs; from there, our ground-breaking, proprietary platform takes over and analyzes the thousands of data points that make customers unique. This is how we create custom-tailored plans for each customer; plans built precisely for their needs and budget. Our platform serves as the intersection between customer and seller, technology, and the human touch.

At Assurance, we are innovative, persevering, collaborative, calculated, and authentic, and we're working together to improve the lives of millions!

About the role

The Assurance Legal team is seeking a highly talented, motivated junior-level attorney interested in growing and applying their skills as a trusted legal adviser to a rapidly growing technology company that is focused on helping consumers get access to the insurance, healthcare, and financial products they need.

With Prudential Financial’s acquisition of Assurance in 2019, this position is a unique opportunity that combines the ability to work for a young, innovative start-up with the support and strength of an over 140-year-old financial services company.

What you’ll do in this role:

You will work both independently and at the direction of other lawyers on the Assurance Legal team in providing legal support to the company across a wide variety of legal disciplines as we seek to help grow our distribution of life, property and casualty, healthcare, and personal finance products through our direct-to-consumer platform.

It is unlikely that any two days will be the same in this role. You should expect to negotiate and draft key agreements; research legal issues necessary for providing advice and counsel to product managers, data scientists, engineers, marketers, compliance officers, and other business partners on everything from the addition of new products or features on the platform to digital marketing initiatives to new regulatory obligations; support complaint handling and litigation matters; and track and advise on emerging legal and regulatory issues that could impact Assurance.

You will need to be comfortable learning to work in a wide variety of legal disciplines, including marketing, employment, privacy, intellectual property, litigation, regulatory affairs, contracts, and corporate law. In this role, you will manage outside counsel relationships, as well as work closely and collaboratively with subject matter experts across our parent company’s Law, Compliance, Business Ethics, and External Affairs team.

This role is an ideal opportunity for a junior lawyer who is interested in growing their skills as an in-house legal adviser at a technology company within a heavily regulated industry, all while helping shape the future of insurance and personal finance.

To be successful in this role, you must possess the following qualifications:

  • A JD degree and bar membership in good standing in at least one state. You will need to become admitted to the limited practice of law as House Counsel in the State of Washington if not admitted to the bar in that state.
  • At least 2 years of prominent law firm, regulatory or in-house law department experience.
  • Superior analytical skills.
  • Strong work-ethic, with an ability to work independently and reliably under tight timeframes in a fast-paced environment.
  • An ability to write and communicate clearly and simply in providing focused, technically-sound, practical legal solutions.
  • Intellectual curiosity and an appetite for learning new legal disciplines outside your current areas of experience.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work and collaborate cross-functionally with various levels within Assurance and Prudential, including senior management and technical experts, to deliver actionable, solution-oriented advice.
  • Courage and confidence to speak up, challenge and advocate for a point of view.
  • An ability to engage in intelligent risk taking and show excellent judgment in comfortably making clear, rational and timely decisions in the best interests of Assurance and our customers despite ambiguity, complexity, and an ever-evolving regulatory environment.
  • Strong project and time management skills, with the ability to balance multiple projects simultaneously and assess and prioritize work requirements.

Choose Assurance Because:

· Exceptional base salary plus bonus structure

· Comprehensive benefits which include, medical, dental, vision, 401K and more

· Unlimited paid vacation, sick leave, plus paid holidays.

· Growth opportunities, advance your career rapidly, we offer leadership development training and promote from within.
