Counsel, Safety - Location Flexible
Role Description
As Legal Counsel for Safety at Dropbox, you’ll be executing on a broad range of responsibilities and counseling the company on a variety of sensitive issues to help keep our users and services safe. You’ll work closely with our Law Enforcement Response and Content Safety analysts, ensuring all disclosure of user information and content moderation practices are compliant with applicable law and Dropbox policies, and advising on policies and procedures to scale safety-related programs. If you enjoy working on novel legal issues requiring shrewd judgment and careful risk assessment in a challenging, team-focused, and fast environment, then this is the role for you.
Responsibilities
- This role reports to our Director & Head of Safety Legal
- Provide strategic legal counsel on laws relating to the disclosure of user data and content moderation
- Counsel the Law Enforcement Response Team on compliance with both criminal and civil legal process
- Counsel the Content Safety team on efforts to enforce Dropbox’s Acceptable Use Policy
- Advise on litigation arising out of the safety programs
- Advise on building and scaling premier processes to assist the Law Enforcement Response and Content Safety teams
- Work cross-functionally with other Dropboxers in the Legal department, such as the policy and regulatory teams, and Engineering teams
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of relevant law enforcement compliance and content moderation laws and share that knowledge across various teams
Requirements
- You have 5+ years of experience. In-house and/or government legal experience is preferred but not required.
- You have experience with federal data disclosure and/or content moderation laws, similar state laws, and policy development in support of those laws. Familiarity with relevant international laws is preferred but not required.
- You have previous litigation case management experience
- You're comfortable navigating complicated, sensitive, and nuanced issues
- Detail-oriented, excellent legal judgment, and strong writing, communication and organizational skills
- You've got a high degree of integrity, strong ethics, and an unflappable demeanor
- You have a JD, are admitted to the Bar, and have a distinctive academic record
