About the Role

As Legal Counsel, you will provide legal support to the Sales team, Marketing, Human Resources, and Product Development - negotiate strategic enterprise agreements, review and manage compliance documents, and support a variety of commercial transactions.

In this partially customer facing role, you will need to bring about swift resolutions of contractual matters, engage at a senior level with customers and cross-functionally with leaders throughout OpenMarket.

What You'll Be Doing

  • Report to Seattle-based Managing Counsel of OpenMarket and partner with the Seattle team to oversee contract management policies, document retention systems, and a wide range of procedures for OpenMarket Legal.
  • Draft and negotiate commercial contracts for the sale of SMS/MMS/RCS messaging services through OpenMarket’s messaging platform.
  • Manage Professional Services Agreements, Statements of Work, Marketing Agreements, and Nondisclosure Agreements with customers, vendors, and third parties.
  • Manage and drive strategy on pre-litigation and litigation matters.
  • Counsel on a variety of labor and employment legal matters including issues related to the ADA, FMLA, state and federal wage and hour laws, state and federal employment discrimination statutes, FLSA, equal pay, diversity, drug-free workplace, employee discipline and termination, whistleblower complaints, wrongful discharge claims, drafting employment agreements and policies, and other labor and employment law matters.
  • Review new and existing statutes and regulations that may affect OpenMarket; advise on the impact of new or existing legislation.
  • Participate in the creation and delivery of trainings related to employment law matters, such as harassment training and other manager trainings on a variety of topics.
  • Analyze significant and/or unique contract requirements, special provisions, terms and conditions to ensure compliance with appropriate laws, regulations and internal corporate policies.
  • Partner with major telecommunication providers in connection with OpenMarket’s provision of messaging services.
  • Advise on US and foreign data security laws and regulations and assist with compliance documents for OpenMarket’s suppliers and customers.

What to Bring

  • 5+ years of legal experience (preferably at least 1 year experience at a leading law firm).
  • Relevant experience and a strong working knowledge of US and global privacy laws and regulations and employment law.
  • Experience with state and federal employment law and advising and counseling clients on such laws.
  • Excellent writing, research and communication skills
  • Interpersonal and self-management skills
  • Analytical, creative, persistent, and flexible
  • Familiarity with IT infrastructure, outsourcing, telecommunications, and cloud computing (SaaS or PaaS) services.
  • Strong technology transactions experience.

Education/Training

  • Licensed attorney in the US.
