Product Counsel

This role allows you to work from anywhere you choose across the U.S. (excluding U.S. territories), with the flexibility to work from the Seattle HQ office as often as you’d like. Please note that no matter where you are located, all employees should be available during our core working hours from 10 am to 4 pm PT Monday through Friday.
Your role and impact
Reporting to the Deputy General Counsel, you will lead the legal team’s efforts in ensuring regulatory compliance with state and federal requirements, impacting how 98point6 engages in the practice of medicine, as well as how our software is designed, maintained and improved. You will also advise the Marketing team for all their efforts related to commercial, engagement, patient and social media campaigns. This role will support other ancillary areas, including government affairs, corporate governance, compliance and commercial contracts. As Product Counsel, you will be critical to support our product development and IP protection, as well as the success and promotion of the 98point6 brand.
Responsibilities
- Create structure and provide thought leadership to guide the development of 98point6 software and intellectual property, including trademark, copyright and licensing matters
- Provide regulatory guidance to leadership and cross-functional stakeholders on the practice of telemedicine and patient care
- Lead the Legal team’s guidance to and support of the Product and Engineering teams in all aspects of the product life cycle
- Advise the Marketing team on all aspects of the 98point6 marketing efforts including commercial marketing, patient marketing and testimonials, social media, video engagement and press releases
- Create project deliverables aligned with appropriate internal and external guidance documents
- Provide advice and guidance on intellectual property protection and patent strategy
- Oversee administration and corporate governance of professional corporations and compliance with corporate practice of medicine requirements
- Drive new expansion efforts, such as international, governmental programs and other new business opportunities impacting the software
- Support commercial contracting efforts to assess impact to software and other facets of business activities, such as marketing efforts
- Keep informed of applicable laws, regulations and industry guidance that impact how medicine is practiced in the virtual care and telehealth space, including state laws, FTC, consumer protection, FDA, HIPAA, CCPA, privacy and security
- Advise on policy changes as it relates to regulations impacting product development
- Manage outside counsel relationships as it relates to company efforts
Qualifications
- JD and a license to practice law in at least one state
- 5+ years of relevant experience
- 2+ years of in-house experience
- Experience working within a technology company
- Experience working with healthcare institutions, insurers or benefits within large employers
- Management experience preferred
- CIPP or other privacy certification preferred
- Demonstrated experience and success working in cross-functional environments
