Senior Counsel, Regulatory- Seattle or US Remote

About the Role:
Remitly is looking for a Senior Counsel, Regulatory with a background in consumer and cross-border payments, Bank Secrecy Act, anti-money laundering and consumer protection compliance. You will work with and report to our VP of Legal for New Initiatives and our dynamic legal teams based in Seattle, Tel Aviv, and London. You will also be part of a supportive, and close knit global business group, establishing a world-class legal function for a fast-growing financial services company.
You Will:
- Support new product initiatives by providing complex legal advice in a highly regulated financial services industry. Knowledge of consumer prepaid or stored value, payments and money movement, and lending laws is beneficial.
- Advise our product, engineering, design, and go-to market teams on legal requirements and risks related to existing products, modifications of products, and launching new products.
- Support our Compliance team with anti-money laundering, counter-terrorist financing, anti-bribery and corruption, and consumer protection compliance matters, including interpreting and advising on relevant and new laws, policies, training content and industry best practices
- Assist, and work with outside counsel to obtain advice and represent Remitly before regulatory authorities.
- Help respond to regulatory exams, other inquiries, and internal audits.
- Work collaboratively and develop trusted relationships with diverse and mission-driven business partners working to improve the lives of immigrants and their families around the world.
- Remain up-to-date on all relevant financial services and industry guidance, consumer protection laws, and regulations to provide legal advice.

You Have:
- J.D. or equivalent.
- Admitted to, and in good standing with at least one State Bar.
- 6 or more years of experience practicing either in-house in bank or fintech environments (or in an equivalent setting) or at a reputable law firm, with a focus on financial services and products, including state and federal banking, payments, and fintech-related laws and industry norms.
- Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team, and to prioritize project management.
- Ability to clearly present your thoughts and positions both orally and in writing.
Preferred Qualifications
- In-depth knowledge of payments laws, regulations, and other requirements such as the Electronic Fund Transfer Act and Regulation E, Consumer Financial Protection Act's prohibition of unfair, deceptive, and abusive acts and practices, and the payments networks rules, and state money transmitter requirements.
- Experience with and knowledge of the Bank Secrecy Act, USA Patriot Act, and implementing regulations.
- Experience with international AML and Consumer Protection regulations.
- Familiarity with consumer lending, credit reporting, collection, payments, and banking laws.
- Comfortable with unclear areas of the law and interpreting and applying the law in new contexts and translating legal advice into relevant guidance for product and business teams.
- Practical approach to counseling clients on legal risks with the ability to be detail-oriented and understand the bigger picture.
- Willingness to learn with the ability to manage a fast-paced environment and to accept change in direction and ambiguity while adapting appropriately.

Compensation Details. The starting base salary range for this position is typically $176,000- $220,000. In the U.S., Remitly employees are shareholders in our Company and equity is part of our total compensation plan.
