Does the challenge of building a new business within a growing technology company excite you? Would you like to help a dynamic B2B SaaS leader open up a brand-new market segment in the tax compliance space?

 

Avalara is growing and hiring! We’re looking for a Director, Product Marketing to help us lead the opportunity in the small business space. You’ll work with great marketers to help us transform the voice of the customer into targeted messages for a massive market. In this role, you’re expected to be a strategist as well as a hands-on marketer. You’ll be reporting into the VP, Product Marketing and will have the opportunity to shape product strategy, go-to-market activities, competitive differentiation and messaging foundation for our products.

 

Job Duties

In this leadership role, you’ll help us with the following

  • Work very closely with product management, engineering, sales and marketing teams to launch new products into market
  • Develop messaging/positioning, sales presentations and other collateral for new and existing products
  • Define top-down market opportunity and bottoms-up bookings forecasts for new products
  • Analyze the competitive landscape and prepare field and sales organizations for addressing competitive situations
  • Work across all of Avalara’s products and geographies to provide strategic support to demand generation, corporate marketing, field teams and the sales organization.

 

Qualifications (absolute must haves walking in the door)

  • Relentless focus on direct and indirect customer interaction to understand customer needs and pain points
  • Ability to collaborate with multiple internal organizations, including sales and product management to drive company success
  • Highly adaptable and self-driven marketer who has the ability to navigate a fast-changing environment
  • Strong analytical abilities to develop insights by combining sales and marketing data with data from other sources
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal as well as written, to craft and articulate compelling stories for B2B technology products
  • Must have the ability to create tangible marketing deliverables as well as be a strategic thinker
  • 10+ years in technology marketing required, prior leadership experience in marketing B2B technologies is a must
  • Must have the ability to learn and demo Avalara’s products
  • Requires a Bachelor's degree in technology or business

 

Preferred Qualification (great to have but not absolutely necessary)

  • Prior experience in B2B sales or technical pre-sales
  • Experience in product management or development
  • Accounting or finance background
  • MBA
