Groupon’s mission is to become the daily habit in local commerce and fulfill our purpose of building strong communities through thriving small businesses. We connect people to a vibrant, global marketplace for local services, experiences and goods. In the process, we’re positively impacting the lives of millions of customers and merchants globally. Even with thousands of employees spread across multiple continents, we still maintain a culture that inspires innovation, rewards risk-taking, and celebrates success. If you want to take more ownership of your career, then you're ready to be part of Groupon.

Our Growth Marketing Team is working on some of the most exciting innovations within the company, enabling every aspect of the customer experience to focus on attracting and engaging customers, and maximizing lifetime value at every stage of their journey. We are seeking a seasoned marketer to head up our Growth Marketing strategy and business operations team.

As Head of Growth Marketing Strategy and Operations, you will be the business owner accountable for the company’s performance against customer growth, purchase frequency, retention, and profitability targets. Your team will provide the insights that enable us to understand not only what’s happening with our customer base, but why. And using those insights, you will create broad awareness and understanding of our customer dynamics to inform customer segmentation and lifecycle marketing tactics, and drive an integrated approach to optimizing base size and profit across marketing, business, product, and engineering teams.

This role is right for you if you thrive on distilling actionable insights from customer data and packaging those insights to fundamentally change the way a company engages its customers and optimize the size, mix, and profitability of its base. You are an analytically-minded marketer with demonstrated success developing actionable customer segments and using that segmentation and insights to tailor content and commercial marketing to consumers throughout their lifecycle. This is a highly-visible position, with marketing, business, product, engineering, and executive stakeholders across the company, so your ability to lead by influence and engage with senior audiences is critical.

We're a "best of both worlds" kind of company. We're big enough to have resources and scale, but small enough that a single person has a surprising amount of autonomy and can make a meaningful impact. We're curious, fun, a little intense, and kind of obsessed with helping local businesses thrive. Does that sound like a compelling place to work?

Core Responsibilities

  • Lead the strategy and operations team for Groupon’s North America Growth Marketing function

  • Establish a deep understanding of the “why’s” behind our customer acquisition, purchase frequency, and retention trends, and provide executive-level reporting, actionable insights, and recommendations to accelerate progress against base size, mix, and profitability targets

  • Create an actionable customer segmentation, in partnership with other marketing leaders, category GMs, and product executives, that enables targeted prospecting, acquisition, frequency, and retention campaigns to be built and delivered as part of customer journeys

  • Work with other senior leaders across the company to identify, prioritize, and ensure the development and delivery of targeted lifecycle marketing campaigns

  • Lead and develop a business analyst and campaign operations team to develop and deliver your insights and to build select lifecycle marketing campaigns

  • Partner with product, engineering, and operations teams to define, design, and implement the features in our marketing automation, promotion, and pricing platforms that improve our ability to effectively and efficiently attract and retain customers

Requirements

  • 10+ years of experience in growth marketing, with senior leadership roles in database marketing, loyalty program, CRM, and/or lifecycle marketing teams for an ecommerce or other consumer internet brand

  • Extremely strong critical thinking skills, including the ability to identify the most important questions to answer, and the data required to answer them

  • You’re willing to roll up your sleeves and dive into data

  • Strong written and oral communication skills, including the ability to explain complex concepts using simple language, and to develop crisp executive-level presentations

  • Demonstrated ability to lead and develop a cross-functional team, and to lead others by influence and example

  • Demonstrated success growing the size and profitability of a large customer base through acquisition, frequency, and retention programs

  • A proven ability to create actionable, needs-based customer segmentation models

  • Bias for action, with experience driving results in a fast-paced, dynamic environment
