Code.org® is a nonprofit dedicated to expanding access to computer science in schools and increasing participation by young women and students from other underrepresented groups. JOB SUMMARY 


We are looking for a PR Manager who will extend the reach of our messaging and increase the awareness of the need for computer science education. The PR manager will keep up with news and progress in computer science and diversity in tech; drive engagement with our partners, community and influencers; increase awareness of our mission through media opportunities; and draft written communications, such as announcements, press correspondences, campaign proposals, and partnership inquiries.


DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES


The PR Manager will work to spread our messages through communications channels beyond our own. In this role you will:


•Monitor news and trends in computer science and diversity in tech

•Maintain a regular cadence of communication with reporters and writers who cover computer science, education, education advocacy, and the technology industry

•Work with Content Marketing Manager on compelling stories for our blog or external press

•Conduct media outreach, writing pitches for relevant news and stories from our organization and community

•Learn, then project and maintain the voice and personality of our organization in all communications

•Work cross-team in our organization to coordinate the dissemination of information and news for public consumption

•Maintain a record of press contacts and coverage

•Cultivate relationships with partners and collaborate on announcements and joint marketing activity

•Coordinate and track celebrity and influencer engagement on different campaigns

•Coordinate with Content Marketing Manager on joint campaigns with partners

•Propose new promotional campaign ideas, sponsorships, or paid promotions to reach more audiences through extended channels

•Assist in various capacities for the Hour of Code campaign 

•Carry out additional duties, as assigned


EXPERIENCE & QUALIFICATIONS


To be successful in this role, you should be an energetic self-starter, experienced in communications; you should have the ability to multi-task, excel under pressure, and work independently with a geographically dispersed team. You should have a reputation for keeping on top of the news and swiftly prioritizing duties as needed on multiple ongoing projects. You should be tech savvy, flexible, and thrive in a fast-paced environment.


To be successful in this role, you should have: 


•Excellent written and verbal communication skills

•Strong copywriting and content development experience 

•A track record of cultivating relationships with partners and influencers

•Knowledge and understanding of current communications trends

•Familiarity with methodologies and media tracking tools 

•Experience in PR, following publication editorial calendars, researching reporters, writing pitches

•Proven ability to work effectively across a wide range of internal teams, and produce on deadline in a fast-paced environment

•Proficiency in using Google suite of applications, presentation and layout skills 

•5 years or more of relevant experience in communications 

•A Bachelor’s degree in communications, public relations, or related field (or equivalent work experience)

•Familiarity or background in educational communications preferred, no background in Computer Science needed 

In addition, candidates:


•Must be a U.S. Citizen or Permanent Resident

•Must pass a pre-employment background check


What does the interview process look like?

Step 1: Informational Interview - learn more about the role and share your experience

Step 2: Interviews with several members of the Code.org team 

Step 3: Final Interview + Meet & Greet with 2-3 members of the Code.org team

Step 4: Reference Checks 


All interviews are currently being conducted virtually via Google Meet
