About the Role: 

RealSelf is seeking an exceptional Sr. Communications Specialist, focused on Media Relations. You will be responsible for securing editorial media coverage in print, digital and broadcast outlets. This position will report to the Senior Communications Manager and work directly with company leadership and RealSelf providers, including plastic surgeons, dermatologists, and dentists. You must be passionate about developing and pitching stories and skilled at using data to support them. You should be comfortable speaking to journalists across a variety of beats including business, tech, beauty, health and science, and personal finance. In this role you will:

• Helps develop and executes earned media strategies and plans
• Writes pitches, press releases, key messages, Q&A documents, and awards entries
• Identifies, establishes and maintains relationships with top-tier journalists, and manages the company’s media lists
• Researches and identifies industry awards and conferences, as well as prepares presentation materials and provides onsite support
• Prepares executives and surgeons to serve as spokespeople
• Manages coverage tracking and reporting, including a coverage database and archive.
• Collaborates with members of various RealSelf teams, including sales, data analytics, product, engineering, legal and finance
• Keeps abreast of competitive and industry trends, and reports on these trends to the larger team

You may be the right fit if you have: 

• 3+ years of PR and media relations experience
• A proven track record of securing local and national coverage, preferably using data
• Extremely strong written and oral communications skills
• Ability to analyze, report and conceptualize stories based on data and research
• Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously while meeting deadlines
• Ability to manage ambiguous situations and work autonomously 
• Ability to think creatively and pay attention to details
• Experience with PR platforms (Cision, MeltWater, Onclusive)
• Bachelor’s degree in communications, journalism, or a related field

Travel:

Travel to New York, Los Angeles, and other major markets as needed.

Work Environment:
