About the Company

Qumulo is the leading file data platform for multi cloud environments, providing unrivaled freedom, control, and real-time visibility for file data at massive scale. Fortune 500 companies, major film studios, and the largest research facilities in the world trust Qumulo to help them transform unstructured data into innovation. The Qumulo experience makes file data management simple with continuous delivery of new features, a single solution for all workloads, and access to customer success experts on your schedule.

At Qumulo we are building an open and collaborative culture where people can do their best work with customers as our magnetic field. We act as owners, we share by default, we are data driven and experimental and as an inclusive workplace, we welcome and celebrate multiple points of view. As part of our culture we believe diversity drives innovation.

About the Position

Qumulo is on a mission to help customers build petabyte scale file lakes on-prem and in the cloud, simply. At the heart of that mission are two obsessions: customers and data. As the Director of Customer Insights you will lead (and build) a team of data scientists and data engineers whose job is to deeply understand how customers use our products and services, what problems we could solve next for them, and to inform the most important strategic decisions at the company with real data. This role reports directly to the VP of Product.

This role encompasses building for the future, and delivering today. You will build and deliver a roadmap of customer insights technologies and tools, while simultaneously answering critical questions today. While you will not be starting from scratch (Qumulo has deep instrumentation and telemetry of our customers and products today, powered by our award winning cloud-based monitoring service MissionQ), you will lead a team that will expand those capabilities for the future. Finally, you will produce critical reports and insights about our customers for the VP of Product, the executive team, marketing and finance, the whole company (at annual events), and even the Board of Directors on occasion.

Responsibilities

  • Build and develop a team of Data Scientists and Data Engineers
  • Maintain, re-imagine, and expand Qumulo’s data insight platforms using technologies such as data warehousing, SQL, messaging, Spark, etc.
  • Create recurring and ad hoc reports on our customer base and their activities across our product and service lines
  • Answer specific questions about specific customers, verticals, or competitors as they arise
  • Collaborate with Product Managers and UX Designers/Researchers as they conduct quantitative and qualitative research, providing feedback and input into their methodologies and assisting in analyzing their results
  • Act as a voice of the customer in product decisions and debates and inform roadmap prioritization and strategy sessions with critical customer data

About You

You are passionate about customers and data science. You are fluent in modern tools for capturing and interpreting big data, and have both implemented them yourself and led teams who implement them. You are comfortable defining a strategy for gathering and reporting on customer insights and working cross functionally to get that strategy implemented. You are happy to both guide other people and work hands-on with (and deploy and manage) technologies such as RedShift, MongoDB, Influx, and RabbitMQ (these are examples, not a checklist). You can create rich data visualizations, and you can critique others who do.

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of experience using data science and analytics to deliver deep customer insights
  • Deep familiarity with data science platforms and tools, including building, maintaining, and iterating on them
  • Passion for customers and customer insights
  • Track record of delivering compelling customer insights which have driven key decisions and business results to executives, engineers, and product leaders
  • Experience building a high functioning team of data science and data engineering professionals
  • Track record of working collaboratively across disciplines to define, deliver, and measure the effectiveness of customer insight initiatives

Key Benefits

  • Excellent healthcare coverage
  • Parental leave
  • 401K investment plan
  • Unlimited paid time off, strongly encouraged to take at least 3 weeks per year
