We believe that great leaders will attract and retain great talent.  But leadership is a journey that takes time and attention and constant learning.  We are looking for a dynamic and experienced leader to own and execute on the leadership development strategy at Avalara.  The Sr. Director, Leadership Development will be responsible for building programs to help develop and grow our leaders at all levels in the organization in alignment with our Success Traits.  You will be driving the leadership development strategy to lay the foundation for programs that support the critical leadership competencies needed to grow with the company.   This role will bring both strategic leadership as well as a track record of hands on development and delivery of leadership programs and is comfortable operating at both levels in order to build and execute on this critical responsibility.
 

Position Overview:

  • Develop a comprehensive and global leadership development strategy for leaders at all levels in the organization ensuring that our talent strategies align with business strategies
  • Design and deliver leadership programs using a variety of mediums such as experiential learning, online and in person training, mentoring & coaching, assessments, etc.
  • Partner with HRBP’s and the Diversity & Engagement Leader to identify development opportunities for high potential and key leaders that support talent and succession strategies
  • Partner with Talent Acquisition team to match current and future organizational needs with existing talent
  • Work with HR leaders to identify leadership competencies and build learning activities that support development of those competencies
  • Support our diversity initiatives by identifying development opportunities aimed at increasing diversity at leadership levels and emerging leadership levels
  • Build manager training program to support emerging managers and skill building for existing managers
  • Build a program to support new managers, for individuals new to management and experienced managers who are new to Avalara
  • Evaluate assessment tools to identify organizational talent gaps as well as development needs for individuals or departments
  • Oversee onboarding programs for new employees and managers new to management
  • Implement peer mentorship programs

 

 

Qualifications:

  • 10 years of leadership curriculum development and training program experience, ideally in a software/SAAS company
  • Bachelor’s degree and a Master’s in Organizational Design, HR or significant experience creating and implementing OD strategy and initiatives in a global company
  • Experience creating innovative and engaging learning activities for leaders at all levels
  • Experience in a global organization, including experience delivering programs on a global scale through a variety of mediums including classroom, digital, one on one, etc.
  • Strong facilitation, presentation and influencing skills, particularly capable of delivering leadership development activities at senior levels in the organization
  • Reporting and analytics experience that measure training effectiveness and support improvement goals tied to ROI and employee engagement
  • Certifications in team and individual training and assessment tools
  • Acute attention to detail, with a focus on operational excellence and continuous improvement
  • Comfort with ambiguity and navigating between strategic and tactical execution
