Job Summary

The Quality Control Laboratory Assistant will help support the evaluation and quantification of the chemical and physical properties of organic and inorganic compounds in production reagents, fertilizer, food, and food scraps. This is an entry level position; some experience may be obtained in a classroom laboratory setting, but experience outside the classroom is strongly preferred.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Able to perform analytic assays on production and research materials utilizing chemistry, biochemistry and microbiological methods and assist in experimental set-up.
  • Perform routine maintenance of laboratory supplies and instrumentation, maintain laboratory inventory and biological stocks to maintain a well-organized, well-run laboratory.
  • Be comfortable with extensive use of computers, in particular PCs running Microsoft Office Suite and other computer applications relevant to the experimental laboratory.
  • Be a self-starter, able to work without constant supervision.
  • Be detail oriented, highly organized, has a commitment to quality with good verbal and written communication skills.
  • Able to document experimental outcomes, assemble data from experiments persisting several days, responsible for daily laboratory housekeeping and maintaining safe laboratory practices.

Requirements

  • A successful candidate should be a self-starter capable of working well with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to work weekends, holidays, off-shift and overtime 2-3 years of laboratory experience preferred
  • Excellent vision (Excellent vision (corrected is acceptable); and good to excellent sensory abilities

Education

The position requires an associates or bachelor's degree in biology, chemistry, or other relevant science discipline.
