What we're looking for:

We are looking for an API Technical Product Manager to define, document, promote and support our API offerings. This position will work closely with product and engineering to define and document APIs in Open API 3.0 format, create sample code and content, configure and manage the API Gateway and developer portal. You will consult with sales, support and customers on how best to implement our API solutions. The ideal candidate will be comfortable in both the technical and non-technical field and comfortable building relationships with our clients.

What's the job really? 

  • Propose, document, socialize, and implement new public facing APIs
  • Develop phased roadmap for rolling out new APIs and deprecating old APIs
  • Manage API Gateway utilizing access keys and authentication to enable monitoring, throttling and quotas
  • Manage developer portal content including Open API 3.0 docs, SDKs, sample code, tutorials and blog posts
  • Manage developer community and forums, be the first line of contact for all developer API questions
  • Develop strategy for providing developers with free text-enabled numbers during trial period
  • Support strategic partners through technical engagement as they integrate with our APIs
  • Integrate API gateway data into Data Warehouse and define report generation for API Billing & Usage

What you bring to the table: 

  • 5+ years relevant experience working with Public APIs
  • Proficient in at least one programming language
  • Effective written, oral, and presentation skills
  • Experience with AWS and Azure a plus
  • Managed a major software/service release cycle (e.g. story writing, running bug triage meetings, setting schedules, prioritizing features)
  • Ability to coordinate the work of several projects in a program using agile and lean program management
  • A Degree in a technical field or equivalent years of experience
  • Experience working with contractors, engineers, testers, developers, agencies, etc
  • Experience prioritizing requirements, writing detailed functional specifications and coordination of cross-team efforts
  • Understanding that perfection is the enemy of innovation but is always the goal
  • Ability to teach a course on the software development life cycle
  • You believe that working in a diverse environment creates better products
  • Experience shining light on ambiguous information and processes in order to clearly communicate program status
  • Extra points if you have both startup experience and have worked at a big company with good development processes.
