The Tableau Enterprise Data Platform and analytics (EDPA) team is responsible for Tableau’s data strategy.  We work relentlessly towards making our vision a reality: “Be a unified - self-service enterprise-grade data platform to accelerate the speed and quality of the business by enabling quick and accurate data-informed decisions for anyone at Tableau”. This is key to everything we do, and we are building a new and modern data platform and its services to continue to be the leader in the world in building a highly successful data culture.

 

What you’ll be doing…

 

The Director of Data Governance and community will establish and oversee the development and implementation of organizational roles, policies, processes, and tools selection to ensure the accuracy of data throughout the end-to-end data lifecycle. The Director will manage development and maintenance of data management standards and provide oversight of activities across the lines of business. The Director will also be leading programs to build more and stronger communities and help continue to build the best data culture in the world.

 

Some of the things you’ll be doing include …

  • Creates enterprise data governance program 
  • Leads Data Governance Committee in establishing priorities, driving and measuring progress and auditing data governance activities
  • Implements and maintains a data governance strategy for Tableau to support the organization's strategic objectives – specifically around self-service

  • Implements solutions to improve data quality for all Tableau data domains. 
  • Coordinates with Legal to address regulatory compliance around data and limit organization's exposure to a data breach including data retention rules, GDPR, CCPA, etc. 
  • Collaborates with senior leadership to establish consistency in developing recommendations around policies, standards and framework for data governance 
  • Collaborates with partners across the enterprise in designing and maintaining the data governance and data quality structures ensuring business needs are met while balancing quality, risk and cost 
  • Map and assess current processes and structures for data governance and identify gaps and areas for improvement 
  • Lead and implement a multi-year data governance roadmap
  • Facilitates strong engagement of data stewards and data domain owners to ensure Tableau’s Data governance function delivers measurable business value
  • Provides leadership to other teams and Data projects to ensure accurate alignment to data governance policies including data classification, data quality, data cataloging, and data discovery
  • Support project activities such as data migration and data validation
  • Serves as a point of escalation for high-impact data governance and data quality issues
  • Participates in data governance practices including qualifying and maintaining operational and financial metadata, handling reporting hierarchies, and improving and maintaining data quality and sources
  • Presents oral and written presentations to key partners. Has the ability to lead and influence across these stakeholders
  • Managing the build and communication of collateral to educate and train data users
  • Managing and prioritizing the opportunities to apply standards and policies to data and areas where authoritative source of data should be used
  • Championing the awareness and adoption of enterprise standards and policies amongst domains
  • Create and maintain community programs around anything data analysis and analytics proficiency
  • Increase data literacy at Tableau through various new and existing programs and through the creation of Tableau Data University
  • Creates powerful and smart virtual analytics help desks
  • Work with the onboarding and bootcamp teams to inject some necessary basic data literacy and statistical refresher, and how we work with data and how we are building the best data culture in the world
  • Managing the Data Governance TPMs, Data Management TPMs, and community PMs 

 

Who you are…

  • 10+ years of industry product/program management leadership experience 
  • 5+ years of experience in positions of increased responsibility in data governance. 
  • Minimum of 5 or more years of management experience with FTE direct reports building data governance teams and programs. 
  • Management experience in a CDO/CIO office or similar organization
  • Previous experience and role as a Director a plus
  • Proven ability to communicate to a technical and non-technical audience 
  • Experience with large scale data programs or solutions 
  • Experience developing and maintaining data catalogs, data discovery and data quality tooling
  • A training or education background and experiences is a plus
  • Ability to drive continuous improvement efforts
  • Established leadership ability to be able to influence others and drive change management and adoption
  • Proven leadership experience leading and developing team members to help them grow in their career
  • Knowledge of data management practices (data quality, metadata management, data security/privacy and master data management) 
  • Experience with Tableau and a big plus having experience with the data management Tableau products
  • Experience with Data Governance tools and platforms (like Alation, Collibra, Informatica)
  • Experience with Privacy and compliance tools like Immuta, Bidid, OneTrust 
  • Experience with Snowflake or similar data warehouse
  • Experience with SOX/ITIL controls 
  • Experience with Privacy Laws and practices
  • Experience in other Regulatory compliance
  • Experience with BI tools
