Ookla, the company behind Speedtest, Mosaik, and Downdetector, is a hard-working, fun-loving team of passionate individuals who have turned clever ideas into unique products and a thriving business. Globally, millions of tests are performed every day across the Speedtest ecosystem on the web, desktop and mobile apps, embedded in routers and deployed in thousands of servers. Downdetector, acquired by Ookla in 2018, is the trusted source for both consumers and service owners to understand real time service availability issues worldwide. Chances are, if an internet-related service is having an issue, Downdetector will be the first place to identify it.

We are looking to scale and grow our Downdetector business unit significantly over the next few years. We are looking for an experienced, hands-on Product Owner who can own and drive the future of the Downdetector product suite, including both Consumer and Enterprise offerings. This position will work closely with the VP of Product, and the Sales Director and engineers dedicated to Downdetector. This position will also correspond with the other product business units at Ookla and J2 companies to determine ways to leverage the Downdetector product. We need a go-getter who is entrepreneurial but able to effectively execute the strategic outlook of Downdetector while being hands on and tackling all of the day-to-day operations of the business. This role will work with various teams including members of product, engineering, marketing, business development and senior management; the ideal person is able to work seamlessly across teams to both be a bridge and driver.

Responsibilities

  • Identify market opportunities and monetize current opportunities across Downdetector consumer and enterprise product offerings.
  • Develop new products and enhance existing products (across mobile, website, etc.).
  • Establish a shared product vision and drive prioritization by working closely with customers, partners and Ookla team members.
  • Maintain and improve the current consumer and enterprise offerings.
  • Understand customer needs and incorporate into new and existing product requirements.
  • Create, manage and communicate progress on the product and project plans.
  • Gather and manage product requirements, including documentation, feature requests and tickets for implementation.
  • Engage closely with the engineering team to help determine the best technical implementation methods as well as a reasonable implementation schedule.
  • Manage the design, data engineering and developer resources assigned to work on new product development.
  • Work with the sales and support team to create sales-related collateral, including pricing model, messaging, and tools or materials for client onboarding.
  • Coordinate with other Ookla and Ziff Davis groups for product launch, as needed.

Requirements

  • Previous product owner/manager experience of at least 5 years
  • Experience with technology products strongly preferred
  • Self-starter with ability to work independently
  • Proven ability to influence cross-functional teams without formal authority
  • Experience with Jira or other development/project management software a plus
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Benefits

Ookla prides themselves on company perks and benefits, both practical and unconventional. We offer top-of-market compensation, flexible schedules, transit passes, on- and off-site happy hours, team activities, provided lunch on Wednesdays and consistently stocked snacks in the office. We offer a comprehensive benefits package that includes 401(k) matching, paid vacation and sick time, personal days, ESPP options, health/dental insurance coverage and a stand-out parental leave. We also provide the best hardware, software and tools available for you to do your work.

Location: While our preference is to have this person located in our Seattle Headquarters we are also open to having this position be remote elsewhere in the US. We provide excellent workplace flexibility for working remotely as time and responsibilities allow.
