Technical Product Manager, Data Platform
Job Summary:
The Technical Product Manger brings deep knowledge of data platform technology (e.g. database, storage, access, performance, interfaces), business value prioritization methods, critical path dependency identification and solution options for stakeholders (reports, dashboards, visualization, datasets, tools for machine learning, etc.) in accordance with their vision and goals focused on business value. The TPM translates goals and objectives into iterative deliverables for technical implementation. Balancing competing factors (discovery, dependencies, mitigation of risks, highest-ROI, platform health and maintenance, etc.) to prioritize the team backlog to ensure optimal delivery. Manages ongoing negotiation of time, scope and plan of attack with business stakeholders. Empathetically communicates risk, trade-offs, status, and targets for delivery of the team’s work in timely and adaptive fashion.
Responsibilities:
- Exhibit a strong sense of responsibility and ownership for the success of data platform development from prioritization to delivery (including post-deploy monitoring of performance)
- Develop a deep technical understanding of our data platform and discovery/exploratory platforms
- Define and champion best practices for the data platform
- Collaborate with team leads, engineering managers and business partners to understand the business needs and deliver solutions
- Elaborate Portfolio needs into user stories that are granular enough to be implemented by the team and provide incremental value to users
- Drive new capability development (dataset, report, dashboard, tool, feed)
- Work closely with engineering teams, product teams, PMO, data analysts/scientists to understand cross-system needs and impacts
- Align with business partners to balance business and technical objectives and manifest these as clear ordered priorities for the team
- Work with the team to prioritize, sequence, and deliver using our agile process
- Ensure testing strategy is implemented, maintained and adequate to support health of the data platform
- Comfortable leading regular agile ceremonies: daily stand ups, development reviews, project and team retrospectives, kick-offs, planning, sizing, demos and be the voice of the user by communicating the value behind each prioritization decision
- Help internal users navigate on-boarding, scaling and optimizing their usage of our platform to create insights
- Understand company business goals and identify strategic opportunities to help partner teams effectively leverage the platform to drive business results
- Communicate implementation status and health updates to both business and technology management (formal and informal, regular cadence and ad-hoc)
- Measure and communicate success of the platform. Analyze usage of our platform and drive improvements to the accuracy and effectiveness of its capabilities
- Define Service Level Agreements and maintain communication regarding platform performance
- Collaborate with other teams at Getty to drive platform adoption and help them optimize their implementations
- Listen to internal partners to identify new requirements for platform capabilities, tooling and documentation
Qualifications:
- S. or M.S. in a Computer Science or equivalent engineering experience
- 5+ years of Software engineering or Systems engineering experience
- 2+ years of Technical Product/Program/Project management experience
- Demonstrated business analyst skills
- Experience in Big Data and Cloud Computing
- Working knowledge of AWS S3, EC2, RDS, Hadoop, Spark, Hive and Snowflake/Redshift
- Working knowledge on dashboard/visualization tools such as Tableau or Looker
- Good understanding on advanced analytic tools such R
- A "can do" attitude with the ability to juggle multiple workstreams and operational support in a fast-paced environment
- Story management
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, specifically around status, risk, trade-offs, and target delivery reporting
- Demonstrated ability to influence cross-functional teams without formal authority
- Organizational and coordination experience along with multi-tasking capabilities
