In the last several years powerful and flexible game platforms have changed the nature of game development. There are teams all over the world telling their stories and building their games who couldn’t have done so a decade ago. Successful and established companies are allowing small, talented teams to tackle new and unproven ideas, confident that they can turn concept into reality without risking the team’s future. It’s an amazing time of imagination, experimentation, and empowerment...unless the experience you’re trying to build is connected in any way.

Communication edge cases, hosting complexity, deployment headaches, security you didn’t know you needed until it was too late, unpredictable hosting costs, forum posts complaining about downtime before you knew anything about it, overloaded servers one day, too many servers the next, the list goes on and on. Great experiences failing for one avoidable reason or another.

We’re building a team in Bellevue to change that pattern, and the entire lifecycle of connected experiences. Conception, evaluation, prototype, development, testing, shipping, maintaining, expanding, and sunset. We’re developing patterns, development tools, runtime features, services, deployment, monitoring, and hosting solutions. The good news is these are almost entirely solved problems. Every successful connected product has had to solve them. The hard part is how to make these accepted solutions available to people who’ve never had to use a service, and ensure the choices they’re making are the right ones by default. It’s an enormous job, which is why we need you.

As a Technical Project Manager at Unity, you will help drive the creation and maintenance of the roadmap for a large, interdisciplinary development team to build connected gaming.

You will work with the team to define clear and realistic development plans and determine resource needs, help balance schedules, team morale, and the overall vision. Together, we will work with internal product management and development and internal stakeholders to create and maintain a backlog of near-term and long-term features that respond to community, technical, and other feedback.

Responsibilities

  • Drive completion of deliverables on both internal and external R&D projects
  • Collaborate with leaders across the various connected gaming teams (Server, Networking, core developers team, Partner teams etc. )
  • Ensure partners and in-house teams work together fluently, and everyone has what they need
  • Be responsible for lean and accurate project tracking
  • Manage risks and establish risk mitigation
  • Work together with our partners and internal teams to track deliverables
  • Aid in the setup and guide processes to operate together with our partners on development and release.

Requirements

  • 5-7 years of experience in Project Management and working cross functionally within an Engineering org
  • Gaming or developer platform background is highly preferred
  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Experience managing multiple teams’ production, running efficient production processes, and coordinating multiple small team efforts
  • Exemplary collaboration and communication skills: listen to, speak with, and resolve conflicts with members of varied disciplines and external partners in a clear and efficient manner
  • Outstanding analytical skills: experience working with project and user data sets and distilling action from them
  • Ability to self-motivate and motivate others
  • Detail-oriented and organized, comfortable dealing with ambiguity
  • Results-oriented, focused and composed under pressure
  • Experience working for creative teams and navigating conflicting priorities
  • Strong initiative and ability to work independently
  • Methodical and investigative disposition
  • Ability to quickly adapt to new technologies and tasks
  • Work with teams across multiple time zones
  • Desire and willingness to travel to exciting European, Canadian and other destinations to reach our global teams

This position is located onsite at the Unity offices in Bellevue, WA.
