The Lodging Shopping team is looking for an experienced Technical Program Manager II to define and drive new features for our award-winning family of interactive travel products.

Our team is within the broader Lodging Technology group that drives Expedia's hotel business. Our services are designed to handle millions of transactions a day and run in a real-time 24x7 environment so robustness, scalability, reliability and high performance are critical. We work behind the scenes to make these transactions possible.

This job requires distilling business requirements to figure out project scope, translating project objectives into website functionality, driving the project through development and launch, and monitoring the changes post-launch. Passion for technology is essential to a technical product manager's success, but here at Expedia we also look for people who are excited about applying that passion to address complex business issues. Having the ability to understand the needs of Expedia as a business, the customer, the supplier, and the implications on the underlying technology, and be able to translate these needs into new services.

Responsibilities:

  • You will work closely with business partners to help define product strategy that meets our customers' needs while satisfying scalability, reliability, performance, and resource costs.
  • You will take ownership in driving new feature development through every stage of the product life-cycle.
  • You will gather detailed functional requirements from the business partners, collaborate with software design engineers and software testers to identify feature details and document them in a functional specification.
  • You will effectively handle trade-offs between cost, schedule, and customer/supplier benefit.
  • You will engage development, test, and application engineering to deliver features to production and drive problem resolution once the new feature has gone live.
  • You will measure feature success metrics post ship and feed learning back to the team and the business.

Qualifications:

  • 3+ years of experience in technical product management or program management
  • Experience with APIs and Web Services are very important
  • Experience with high volume systems and high scalability
  • Be a self-starter and detail oriented.
  • Ability to creatively solve challenging business/technology problems.
  • Experience gathering business requirements and turning them into detailed functional design specifications.
  • Excellent oral/written communication skills.
  • High degree of competency with project management including: project planning, issue and risk identification and management, tracking dependencies and achievements, and communication of overall project status.
  • Show ability to work across teams to drive the implementation of new features as well as resolve operational issues.
  • Familiarity with web-based product development including software development processes, n-tiered architectures, service oriented architectures, data organization, and performance optimization.
  • Familiarity with relational DB systems and data mining using SQL.
  • Travel industry experience is a plus.
  • A BA/BS degree in technical field or related discipline preferred.
  • A software related MS or technical MBA.
