The Ground Control Manager is the ultimate host. You are responsible for overseeing all efforts related to culture to ensure a welcoming, positive, productive, inspiring, supportive workplace for all. As the ultimate host you anticipate needs, have a pulse on the feeling of the office and take action on initiatives that will connect the office to our mission and values, and improve morale.

The Ground Control Manager works across a diverse group of stakeholders (global, regional and local) and subject matter experts including: Ground Control, Workplace (Facilities, Food, Safety+Security), Environments, ITX, Talent, Real Estate & Construction, etc. You are a key partner to the local office leadership.

You are a leader who works in close collaboration with site leadership to identify the challenges, opportunities, vision, and strategy for the site. You drive the culture, employee initiatives, and ensure that our employees live Airbnb’s value and mission everyday. You use metrics and data to influence your decision making. You are comfortable working in a matrixed organization and influencing leadership. You believe in our mission, and can take a strategy and adapt to the local needs of your office/employee audience. 

Your primary focus areas are office culture and operations. You will maintain a productive and inspiring workplace for all. You will bring the culture to life and connect the team to our mission, values and each other through hosting, gathering, and communicating.

Tasks & Responsibilities

  • Execute on Ground Control’s global strategy, adapting for the Seattle site
  • Collaborating and aligning with other EX leadership to ensure a properly functioning site
  • Support site leadership team in defining, operationalizing and executing on site priorities
  • Be a host & a central resource for both guests and employees alike.
  • Build a site culture that can scale with Airbnb Seattle’s growth. Ability to execute now, but plan for tomorrow. 
  • Culture and Core Values champion, nurturing and growing the local Airbnb culture.
  • Build and manage a local communications strategy that keeps the office connected to each other and to the wider business curating content from your site and sharing it through our global channels system and re-sharing global content with a local lens.
  • Oversee all elements of office programming from local strategy through execution for events and programs including: event design and planning, coordinate event set-up and breakdown, organizing program and events supplies and records, source vendors and venues as needed and tracking impact.
  • Execute or support the team in creating recognition moments around Airbnb milestones (anniversaries, etc), impactful contributions, personal, milestones and maintain a DIY celebration station to encourage employees to implement moments on their own.
  • Manage the allocated GC budget and leverage any additional local office and department budgets to implement programing.
  • Oversee execution of call site comms including: hosting world@ viewing parties, sending a weekly office newsletter, coordinating team meetings, keeping aliases up to date, managing local digital display content, etc.
  • Partner with local Social Impact and Wellness ambassadors and local ERG groups on programming and support as needed.
  • Keep an ear to the ground and represent the voice of the site with local and visiting leadership

Requirements

  • A minimum of 6+ years of relevant experience in a fast moving, dynamic, office management role that required projects and events management and general everyday office operations or 2+. years in relevant education.
  • You are proficient in working with leaders, drafting comms, change management, project management, and English. 
  • You have a deep understanding of how businesses is conducted in local city and country and understand local nuances.
  • Working experience in start-ups, dynamic and innovative environments.
  • You possess outstanding attention to detail and take pride in work that is done well.
  • You know how to combine excellent communication and interpersonal skills in your day-to-day job. 
  • You love to create; good is never good enough for you. You never get tired of improving things.
  • You are highly independent and driven.
  • Able to juggle tasks & prioritize. 
  • You naturally leverage proactivity, enthusiasm and organization skills to achieve your goals.
  • You are passionate about the Airbnb community and culture.
