Lodging Platform team is responsible for the core services powering the Lodging business for all of Expedia Group, representing the largest line of business by revenue. Our Lodging Platform operations are global, with representation in 8 countries and 17 offices. Our platforms are unique, supporting multiple Expedia group brands - Brand Expedia Group (including Brand Expedia, Orbitz, Travelocity, Wotif and ebookers), Hotels.com, Expedia Partner Solutions, Egencia, and most recently HomeAway.

The Lodging Partner Integration & Experience (LPIE) team has oversight of the development of API for our Lodging partners. We provide highly scalable, high throughput API solutions to enable efficient, and accurate information exchange with partners. This enable us to operate an efficient marketplace with the most up to date information available. Simply put, partner APIs are a critical component of EG becoming world’s travel platform.

Summary

Expedia Group Lodging Platform team is looking for a passionate Developer Evangelist who will invest in ensuring developers are successfully building solutions against EG Lodging platform. We’re expanding the scope of our current solution offering to cover big hotel chains such as Marriott to very small partners where CEO, CTO and developer are a single person! You’ll work closely with the engineers building the APIs to ensure that needs and requirements of the developers are reflected in the services we build. You will also work closely with product and business partners on the future direction of our API development, based on feedback and firsthand information from our partners. Additionally, you will also engage with the developer community, with the help of Industry Relations, through speaking, blogging, meet-ups, and a variety of other engagements.

Responsibilities

  • Be the voice of developers. Act as advocate-in-chief for the developers thru various means of communication -
  • Host and/or attend industry events
  • Speak at conferences, webinars
  • Write blogs, newsletters
  • Participate in community forums
  • Guide the development of industry forward API talking points
  • Develop and maintain thriving community of advocates
  • Build reference implementations, developer SDKs, API portal, API documentation and automation to help simplify the process of building solutions using the APIs
  • Work with internal business partners such as product managers, business development managers etc. as well as multiple engineering teams, and partner developers in the design and delivery of Lodging marketplace platform
  • Regularly connect with new and existing API partners, listen and gather feedback, understand their problems, and identify enhancements we can make to improve their interaction with us. Translate these into requirements, and work with product partners to prioritize and execute on these ideas
  • Partner with Commercial/Sales team to help new partners close the deals with us, by offering technical insights as needed.
  • Document and communicate the value of API versioning strategy with internal and external partners on implementation
  • Keep abreast of API Development trends, to help keep our APIs relevant
  • Perform benchmark/competitive analysis of APIs in the marketplace
  • Partner with our Commercial team to promote technical understanding thru tools/supporting materials

Your Profile:

  • 10+ yeas of industry experience as a technology professional, including extensive hands-on software development experience.
  • Can write code that others can use as a sample and/or best practices
  • Experience in ad-hoc stitching together solutions from different API suites to resolve real world problems
  • Well versed in current and future technology trends with bias towards API development.
  • Experience building and maintaining developer communities
  • Strong oral and written communication skills - Experience speaking at major tech conference, hosting webinars. Experience in writing/organizing/publishing user documentation, blogs, and newsletters that are geared towards developer engagement
  • Business Acumen - Strong sense of what features, tools, and/or process changes can translates to business benefits. Ability to conduct research to validate those assertions
  • Collaborative - Ability to work across internal/external organizations effectively, with ability to influence business partners to achieve positive results
  • A BS or MS degree in Computer Science (or related field) is required, a Technology MBA is highly desired
