The team at Switch, Inc. is looking for a talented Senior Technical Project Program Manager to join our Engineering organization in Seattle, WA. In this role, you will play a key role in leading both the creation of new services and the processes that we use to develop them. We need an organizational expert to join the team and evolve our processes to the next level. In this role you will work closely with stakeholders, software engineers and product teams to deliver our most complex, high quality, scalable products.

What you’ll be doing

Planning

  • Lead technical specification portion of product development and coordinate review meetings.

  • Apply compliance requirements to all product development.

  • Maintain intimate knowledge of systems and identify unnecessary complexity or unmet dependencies.

  • Turn requirements and product specs into deliverables, including identifying cross-team dependencies and balancing new projects with tech debt or other team initiatives.

  • Work with teams to calculate capacity and estimate capacity planning.

  • Collaborate with team leads to prioritize based on constraints (e.g. Engineering capacity, fixes required to meet existing SLAs, etc..).

  • Drive the formulation of objectives and key results for team deliverables.

  • Drive effective teamwork, communication, collaboration and commitment across multiple teams with competing priorities.

Execution

  • Run relevant sprint meetings (planning, retro, etc.) alongside Engineering Managers and Technical Leads.

  • Shield teams from outside distractions and interferences to ensure the correct use of Agile process.

  • Anticipate bottlenecks, provide escalation management, anticipate and make trade offs, and balance the business needs versus technical constraints.

  • Maximize resources for the greater good of the organization. Identify, assess, track and mitigate issues and risks at multiple levels.

  • Escalate and coordinate with dependent teams to unblock work.

  • Maintain JIRA/Structure for team, including ensuring tickets are updated and tracked to resolution.

  • Document weekly status updates on progress towards deliverables, including identifying lagging work and monitoring project health.

Delivery

  • Ensure projects have appropriate tests and have been vetted for bugs prior to release.

  • Coordinate with team to ensure acceptance criteria have been met, and that projects/milestones are completed and delivered on schedule.

  • Validate non-functional requirements have been met, such as latency, performance, scalability, and compliance.

 

Qualifications

  • 7+ years of Software Development experience; 5+ years of experience in leading engineering teams

  • Technical experience developing software applications/SaaS products

  • Be detail driven and have excellent problem-solving abilities.

  • Experience applying agile processes tailored to organizational needs

  • Be passionate about delivering extensible, on-time solutions

  • Be obsessed with contributing to the development of high-performance teams through rigorous goal-setting, disciplined attention to performance metrics, and continuous process improvement.

  • A Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or equivalent experience.

  • Relentless passion and persistence and a focus on meeting commitments

  • Technology background, especially in a service-oriented environment with a deep understanding of software development and compliance.
