A Little About Us

Within Yahoo Games, our mission is to make games a natural extension of the daily Yahoo experience - easy to discover, fun to play, and rewarding to return to. We are reimagining Yahoo Games as a modern casual gaming platform powered by high-quality content, strong production discipline, and a deep focus on player experience.

A Lot About You

We are seeking a detail-oriented and player-focused Quality Assurance Lead to help ensure the quality, balance, and performance of games and features across Yahoo Games. In this role, you will work closely with Engineering, Game Design, Product Management, and Visual Design to test new games, platform features, and live updates across desktop and mobile web.

This role goes beyond traditional functional QA. You will contribute qualitative feedback on gameplay, balance, and overall fun, while also ensuring technical quality, compatibility, and performance across browsers and devices. Depending on experience and interest, you may also contribute to content creation such as puzzle design, quiz authoring, or tuning live game content.

Your Day at Yahoo

  • Test & Validate: Execute functional, regression, compatibility, and performance testing for new games, features, and live updates across desktop and mobile web environments. Identify, document, and drive resolution of issues in close partnership with Engineering and external teams.

  • Documentation & Planning: Develop and maintain comprehensive test plans, test cases, and QA workflows to support structured and scalable testing cycles.

  • Explore and experiment with AI-assisted tools to help generate test cases, automate testing workflows, and simulate player behavior during playtesting.

  • Identify opportunities to leverage AI to streamline QA processes, including test script generation and automated playtesting simulations.

  • Collaboration: Partner closely with Engineering, Game Design, Product, and external developers to support feature validation, release readiness, and live operations.

  • Gameplay & Player Experience: Provide qualitative feedback on gameplay, balance, pacing, and overall player experience. Lead playtests and contribute to gameplay tuning and iteration.

  • Contribute to the team’s early adoption of AI tools that improve testing efficiency, coverage, and iteration speed across game development workflows.

  • Creative Contribution: Contribute to content creation where appropriate, such as puzzle design, quiz authoring, or configuration updates.

  • Player Perspective: Advocate for a high-quality, accessible player experience across platforms.

You Must Have

  • 3+ years of experience in Quality Assurance for games or interactive products.

  • Web Testing Experience: Hands-on experience testing desktop and mobile web applications, including cross-browser compatibility.

  • Technical Aptitude: A strong technical foundation; a Computer Science background or equivalent experience is preferred.

  • Development Knowledge: Experience working closely with engineers and an understanding of development workflows.

  • Strong Communication: Ability to write clear, detailed test plans, bug reports, and reproduction steps.

  • Analytical Mindset: Experience testing games from both a technical and player-experience perspective.

  • Game Literacy: An instinct for what makes gameplay feel fun, fair, and engaging.

  • Team Player: Strong communication and collaboration skills in cross-functional environments.

Nice to Have

  • Experience testing casual, daily, or live-ops games.

  • Experience with gameplay balancing or tuning.

  • Experience creating or curating game content (e.g., puzzles, quizzes, levels).

  • Familiarity with Agile / Scrum development practices.

  • Experience using test management, bug tracking, or analytics tools.
