About the company

Hazel Analytics pairs the largest food safety inspection database with powerful analytics tools and solutions for Fortune 500s and leading organizations in the restaurant, government, and financial services industries. Our Food Safety Insights (FSI) and other analytics products transform local health department data into actionable intelligence using our proprietary Hazel Score methodology.

Of the top 100 food retail chains by size, 49 are users of Hazel Analytics technology; our customers include notable national and global brands such as Instacart, Target, Subway, and Whole Foods. We're also the exclusive worldwide provider of health department data technology to Ecolab, a global leader in food safety products and services. Our recent awards include the 2019 Food Marketing Institute Food Safety Innovation Award and the 2019 Sani Professional Food Safety Program Innovation Award. We've also been recognized as one of Seattle's best small businesses to work for in 2020 by Built in Seattle.

About the role

As the Head of Growth, you will be responsible for working closely with the CEO and other leaders to set the vision for - and then execute against - the business development and sales strategy. We are highly disciplined about growth, and take pride in being a self-funded and profitable company, with a track record of generating recurring revenue. We’re a small team, yet punch above our weight with 200 major brands as users. We operate in a niche market and have largely been defining the uses cases of health department data analytics for our customers and partners, so you will play a critical role in continuing to define our market possibilities. As Hazel’s first dedicated BD and marketing personnel, you will own the growth function and will have as much impact as you have interest and attitude for. If you’re an entrepreneur at heart, and have ambition and passion for building a business, then this role may be a good fit for you.

Compensation is $100K base (and up to $80K in additional performance based bonus). We also offer equity, and a generous benefits package. Our team has some WFH flexibility, but we do not have fully-remote opportunities. Unfortunately, we are not able to provide H1B sponsorship.

Responsibilities

  • Partner with the CEO to set vision and strategy for sales and marketing.
  • Build product/market specific business development roadmaps; prioritize roadmap activities and execute on highest impact initiatives.
  • Deliver growth through end-to-end ownership of the sales cycle, closing strategic and enterprise deals.
  • Develop win-win strategic partnership with current and future partners.
  • Establish yourself and Hazel as a thought leader in the industry by presenting at industry conferences, customer meetings, and other high-value forums.
  • Produce marketing collateral and other customer-facing deliverables (e.g., presentations), and writing blog posts and trade articles emphasizing the importance of optimal food safety practices.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional team members (business operations, product, engineering) in service of business development objectives.
  • Help foster and contribute to winning team culture.

Who You Are

  • You have a working understanding of enterprise SaaS and/or SMB, especially enterprise technology sales.
  • Aspiring entrepreneur and/or jostling with an entrepreneurial itch: you're excited about the idea of building up a market from the ground up. You have grit and find viable ways to get stuff done.
  • Creative and resourceful: you can study a market, come up with a plan to approach it, and execute against your plan, pivoting along the way as needed.
  • A phenomenal verbal and written communicator that is able to build trust and empathy with counterparts in various roles/titles. Polished, articulate, and credible in client communication. Effective in giving, soliciting, and accepting feedback.
  • Passionate: the idea of using data and technology to improve food safety and public health excites you. So does the idea of helping to expand a rapidly growing business.
  • Outcome oriented: you articulate the desired outcome(s) and work collaboratively to create a path to achieve it; proven ability to bring simplicity and measurable results to complex, ambiguous situations.
  • Proven doer and leader: you have the ability to fluidly switch between sweating the details of a prospective customer to zooming out and talking high-level strategy for a new market.
  • Not afraid of operating in a technical environment. You don't need to know how to code, or even talk about code, but you should be comfortable and effective translating technical concepts to non-technical audiences.
  • You take pride in earning the respect of your team through your great work.

Nice to have, but not required:

  • Previous experience in sales, entrepreneurship, or startups.
  • Previous experience in enterprise SaaS.
  • Experience selling directly to large companies, including Fortune 500.
  • MBA from a top program.
  • A technical background.
