Reporting to the Manager of Purchasing, the Senior Buyer is primarily responsible for administering purchase orders in accordance with established policies, procedures and generally accepted purchasing practices. The Senior Buyer purchases goods and services on behalf of stakeholders from a diverse set of departments. The Senior Buyer manages new and existing vendor relationships, as well as supports the Manager of Purchase by training the requester on policies, processes, and systems.
 

Job Duties

  • Assist employees with issues related to the submission of purchase requests
  • Review purchase requests for appropriate account coding and necessary approvals
  • Evaluate bids and proposals from vendors in accordance with established policies
  • Negotiate favorable pricing, payment, and other contractual terms with vendors
  • Develop preferred vendor sources for frequently used goods or services
  • Place purchase orders for goods and services pursuant to established policies
  • Maintain appropriate supporting documentation for all purchases
  • Resolve issues with vendors – e.g., delivery delays, pricing differences, quantity discrepancies, product defects – in a timely manner
  • Articulate purchasing policies and procedures to end users and continually reinforce compliance with purchasing practices
  • Collaborate with the Manager of Purchasing in identifying and implementing process improvements
  • Assist with ad hoc projects and perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications 

  • 2 – 5 years of experience in a purchasing role for a company with annual revenues of at least $50 million – experience in a technology company desirable
  • Thorough understanding of purchasing principles, processes, and procedures
  • Experience evaluating vendor bids, negotiating pricing and other contractual terms, and managing on-going relationships
  • Hands-on experience with at least one major ERP system – preferably NetSuite
  • Track record for meeting deadlines
  • Familiarity with the application of internal controls in a purchasing context
  • Service oriented with a collaborative approach toward problem-solving
  • Proficient using Excel, Word and other Microsoft Office applications
  • Exceptional planning and organizational skills
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in written form
  • Bachelor’s degree in business administration or combination of experience and other relevant training
