The Role

Company Description
Block is one company built from many blocks, all united by the same purpose of economic empowerment. The blocks that form our foundational teams - People, Finance, Counsel, Hardware, Information Security, Platform Infrastructure Engineering, and more - provide support and guidance at the corporate level. They work across business groups and around the globe, spanning time zones and disciplines to develop inclusive People policies, forecast finances, give legal counsel, safeguard systems, nurture new initiatives, and more. Every challenge creates possibilities, and we need different perspectives to see them all. Bring yours to Block.
Job Description
The Security organization protects Block while allowing the company to take principled risks. We are focused on scaling our impact, and a large part of this is building the Program Management Organization (PMO) to support functions and programs for Security. This includes building the processes and frameworks needed for our teams and tools to scale, and managing complex initiatives as needed.
As Block continues to grow, having a structured and organized approach to scaling will be essential to our long-term success. We are looking for a Technical Program Manager to join our Security PMO and help us tackle the challenges ahead related to identifying and managing security risk across the company.
You will:

  • Manage large scale security programs across Block with a particular focus on Data Security.
  • Manage multiple complex projects, often with competing timelines and resource needs.
  • Manage diverse relationships with Product, Engineering, Operations, Compliance, Legal and Analytics teams at Block, and provide recommendations and solutions that help teams understand and achieve their goals.
  • Build upon existing internal partnerships: define, iterate and enable new programs that minimize security risk across Square
  • Develop and iterate on light-weight tracking and reporting tools to drive accountability and reduce operational burden on engineering teams
  • Participate in quarterly and annual planning for the Security PMO.

You will:

  • Manage large scale security programs across Block.
  • Build upon existing internal partnerships: define, iterate and enable new programs that minimize security risk across Square
  • Be responsible for driving multiple/concurrent projects to successful completion, including schedule, budget and resource management.
  • Define and drive process and framework improvements that both benefit engineering and help us meet our goals of securing Block.
  • Implement PMO processes and standards
  • Communicate program status broadly across our team and the company.

Qualifications
You have:

  • A bachelor degree in Computer Science, Cybersecurity, or similar, and 5 or more years of project management experience.
  • Excellent leadership and communication skills, with demonstrated ability to inspire team members, stakeholders and our engineering customers.
  • Technical background and an understanding of SDLC, Data Security and Privacy
  • Experience working directly with engineering and cross-functional teams to identify, scope, and deliver multiple complex projects concurrently.
  • Experience in interpreting and communicating technical requirements to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • A track record of identifying and introducing engineering-focused operational improvements with measurable results.

Even better:

  • Programming Experience for writing shipping code and/or work experience in managing engineering teams
  • Experience with Agile Methodologies
  • Experience using scripting and/or AI/Automation to scale and optimization
  • Experience in tailoring PMO standards and processes for engineering teams

What We Do

Block, Inc. (NYSE: SQ) is a global technology company with a focus on financial services. Made up of Square, Cash App, Spiral, TIDAL, and TBD, we build tools to help more people access the economy.

Square helps sellers run and grow their businesses with its integrated ecosystem of commerce solutions, business software, and banking services. With Cash App, anyone can easily send, spend, or invest their money in stocks or Bitcoin. Spiral (formerly Square Crypto) builds and funds free, open-source Bitcoin projects. Artists use TIDAL to help them succeed as entrepreneurs and connect more deeply with fans. TBD is building an open developer platform to make it easier to access Bitcoin and other blockchain technologies without having to go through an institution.

Why Work With Us

Across our ecosystem, we’re working to help our diverse audiences — sellers, individuals, artists, fans, developers, and all the people in between — overcome barriers to access the economy.
