3 Month Contract Position

POSITION SUMMARY

As a Senior Software Engineer – DevOps, on the Platform team at Cryoport Systems, you will play a crucial role in delivering high-quality technical solutions to grow our foundational systems. You will collaborate closely with both technical peers and leadership. You will contribute to key architectural decisions, actively participate in project planning, and work hands-on with our core platform components. Your expertise will help guide design and development, ensuring our systems meet both current and future business needs.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES (include but are not limited to) 

  • Core Platform Development: Design, build, and maintain essential platform components to support Cryoport Systems growth, focusing on performance and scalability.
  • Technical Execution: Deliver high-quality code and contribute to architectural improvements by implementing solutions, under the strategic guidance of leadership.
  • Team Mentorship: Lead code reviews and provide hands-on mentorship to junior engineers, adhering to best practices and fostering continuous learning.
  • Project Leadership: Drive key project phases within the Platform team, ensuring timely delivery and alignment with team objectives.
  • Performance and Automation: Identify and address performance bottlenecks, implement automation initiatives, and optimize processes at the team level.
  • Security and Compliance: Implement security best practices and maintain compliance with internal standards, supporting broader risk management.
  • Collaboration: Actively participate in technical discussions, document solutions clearly, and translate complex technical concepts into actionable insights for your immediate team.
  • Risk Mitigation: Proactively identify potential technical risks within your projects and collaborate with relevant stakeholders to implement effective mitigation strategies.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related field (required)

        Experience:

  • 7+ years professional software engineering, including 4+ years in DevOps/SRE building and operating containerized microservice applications.
  • Proven ownership of environment setup and validation for multi-account AWS (dev/test/stage/prod), including documentation, change control, and release sign-off.
  • Hands-on Infrastructure as Code with Terraform (preferred; able to create modular, reusable, and auditable IaC.
  • Strong background in AWS networking & security (VPC design, subnets/NAT, SG/NACLs, Route 53, ALB/NLB, WAF, IAM least privilege, KMS, Secrets Manager/SSM Parameter Store).
  • Practical knowledge of data and messaging services (RDS/Aurora, DynamoDB, S3, ElastiCache/Redis, SQS/SNS, Kinesis/MSK) and how to validate integrations end-to-end.
  • Scripting/automation proficiency in Python and/or Bash; configuration management with Ansible (or similar).
  • Bonus: experience in regulated/validated environments (GxP/GAMP5/CSV), disaster recovery (RPO/RTO), cost optimization.

  • AWS Core: EKS/ECS/Fargate, ECR, EC2, VPC, Route 53, ALB/NLB, API Gateway/Lambda, RDS/Aurora, DynamoDB, S3, SQS/SNS, IAM, KMS, Secrets Manager/SSM, CloudWatch, CloudTrail, Config, Organizations/SCPs.
  • Containers & Orchestration: Docker, Kubernetes
  • CI/CD & Quality: Pipeline design, artifact/version management, automated integration/contract/smoke testing, environment health checks, and automated rollback.
  • Security & Compliance: Image/IaC scanners, CIS/WAF best practices, Well-Architected principles, evidence packages for validation.

up to $70/hour depending on experience
