Role Description

As a Senior Engineering Manager in the Dash Experiences organization, you’ll lead the team behind Stacks and Start Page; two of Dropbox’s most strategic product experiences. Stacks helps users organize their work into intelligent, AI-assisted collections, while Start Page provides an activity feed and dynamic suggestions so users always know what’s going on in their day.

You’ll work at the intersection of AI, infrastructure, and user experience, shaping how millions of people interact with their content every day. This is a highly visible, high-impact role with strong cross-functional collaboration and direct influence on Dropbox’s long-term product direction.

Our Engineering Career Framework is viewable by anyone outside the company and describes what’s expected for our engineers at each of our career levels. Check out our blog post on this topic and more here.

Responsibilities
  • Lead, mentor, and scale a full-stack product engineering team driving Stacks and Start Page
  • Own execution from 0→1 product discovery through to GA launch and iteration
  • Collaborate with PM, Design, and Data Science to shape product direction and success metrics
  • Partner with AI relevance and infra teams to integrate cutting-edge ML models into user-facing experiences
  • Establish strong engineering practices, ensuring velocity without compromising stability or quality
  • Represent the team in strategic planning and cross-org alignment forums
  • Champion an inclusive, high-accountability, high-autonomy team culture

Many teams at Dropbox run Services with on-call rotations, which entails being available for calls during both core and non-core business hours. If a team has an on-call rotation, all engineers on the team are expected to participate in the rotation as part of their employment. Applicants are encouraged to ask for more details of the rotations to which the applicant is applying.

Requirements
  • 10+ years total experience in software engineering, with 7+ years of people management
  • Proven record of leading full-stack product teams through ambiguity and rapid iteration
  • Strong technical foundation in modern web technologies (React, TypeScript, Electron, etc.) and cloud infrastructure (AWS, Databricks, OpenSearch, DynamoDB)
  • Experience partnering with design and PM to define, build, and ship delightful user-facing products
  • Excellent communication and alignment skills across executive and technical audiences and ability to balance technical depth with delivery velocity and team health
  • Experience shipping client-side user-facing features
  • 0 to 1 building experience in a work setting
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience working on AI-powered or content discovery products
  • Background in agentic systems, LLM applications, or AI relevance platforms
  • Prior leadership within high-growth, high-ambiguity environments (startup or new initiative)
  • Track record of building and retaining senior-level engineering talent
  • Degree in Computer Science or related technical field

What you need to know about the Seattle Tech Scene

Home to tech titans like Microsoft and Amazon, Seattle punches far above its weight in innovation. But its surrounding mountains, sprinkled with world-famous hiking trails and climbing routes, make the city a destination for outdoorsy types as well. Established as a logging town before shifting to shipbuilding and logistics, the Emerald City is now known for its contributions to aerospace, software, biotech and cloud computing. And its status as a thriving tech ecosystem is attracting out-of-town companies looking to establish new tech and engineering hubs.

Key Facts About Seattle Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 287,000; 13% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Amazon, Microsoft, Meta, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, cloud computing, software, biotechnology, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $3.1 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Madrona, Fuse, Tola, Maveron
  • Research Centers and Universities: University of Washington, Seattle University, Seattle Pacific University, Allen Institute for Brain Science, Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, Seattle Children’s Research Institute
