About Onebrief

Onebrief is collaboration and AI-powered workflow software designed specifically for military staffs. By transforming this work, Onebrief makes the staff as a whole superhuman - meaning faster, smarter, and more efficient.

We take ownership, seek excellence, and play to win with the seriousness and camaraderie of an Olympic team. Onebrief operates as an all-remote company, though many of our employees work alongside our customers at military commands around the world.

Founded in 2019 by a group of experienced planners, today, Onebrief’s team spans veterans from all forces and global organizations, and technologists from leading-edge software companies. We’ve raised $123m+ from top-tier investors, including Battery Ventures, General Catalyst, Insight Partners, and Human Capital, and today, Onebrief is valued at $1.1B. With this continued growth, Onebrief is able to make an impact where it matters most.

About the Role

We’re looking for a talented Senior Engineering Manager to lead our Frontend Platform team. This team is responsible for the internal UI platform powering all Onebrief interfaces, including our shared design system, component libraries, and core and common functionality. You will work closely with Product, Design, and other Engineering teams to ensure the consistency, reliability, and scalability of the user interface experience across the application. Your team’s work enables all other client side engineering teams to build faster and better.

Why Join Onebrief?

At Onebrief, your contributions will directly support safer and more effective military operations globally. Join a dedicated, talented team driven by excellence, innovation, and meaningful mission impact.

About You

You enjoy being a people manager and excel at leading teams through complex architectural and organizational changes. You have a strong foundation in frontend technologies and a passion for enabling other teams. You care deeply about developer experience, UI consistency, and scalable infrastructure. Your approach is strategic and thoughtful, and you thrive in a highly collaborative, async-first environment.

What You’ll Do
  • Frontend Platform Development: Lead the evolution of our design system, UI libraries, and shared frontend tooling to enable consistent and performant user experiences.

  • Developer Experience: Collaborate with stakeholders to improve frontend developer workflows and reduce friction for engineers building product surfaces.

  • Cross-Team Collaboration: Partner with Product Designers, Engineers, and QA to guide architectural decisions and ensure reusable patterns.

  • Team Building: Grow, mentor, and lead a team of frontend-focused engineers. Foster a healthy, inclusive, and high-performing team culture.

QualificationsLeadership & Management Experience:
  • 3+ years managing engineers, including hiring, performance management, and career growth

  • Proven experience coaching engineers and building healthy team dynamics

  • History of leading cross-functional initiatives with Product and Design

Technical Expertise:
  • 5+ years of frontend engineering experience, ideally in modern JavaScript frameworks (React preferred)

  • Strong understanding of shared UI systems (design systems, component libraries) and DX tooling

  • Experience navigating release processes, breaking changes, and long-term migration plans

Platform & Delivery Focus:
  • Track record of improving developer experience through tooling, documentation, and performance enhancements

  • Experience owning long-lived infrastructure that supports multiple product teams

  • Familiarity with observability, automated testing, and frontend CI/CD best practices

Communication & Collaboration:
  • Clear, thoughtful communicator who writes well and aligns teams asynchronously

  • Comfortable navigating ambiguity and surfacing tradeoffs in architectural decisions

  • Brings a collaborative, low-ego leadership style focused on building trust and shared clarity

Bonus Skills (Nice to Have):
  • Experience with platform teams or shared UI infrastructure

  • Background in developer tools or performance-focused engineering

  • Familiarity with military, govtech, or other high-trust or regulated environments

Compensation Range: $225K - $275K

What you need to know about the Seattle Tech Scene

Home to tech titans like Microsoft and Amazon, Seattle punches far above its weight in innovation. But its surrounding mountains, sprinkled with world-famous hiking trails and climbing routes, make the city a destination for outdoorsy types as well. Established as a logging town before shifting to shipbuilding and logistics, the Emerald City is now known for its contributions to aerospace, software, biotech and cloud computing. And its status as a thriving tech ecosystem is attracting out-of-town companies looking to establish new tech and engineering hubs.

Key Facts About Seattle Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 287,000; 13% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Amazon, Microsoft, Meta, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, cloud computing, software, biotechnology, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $3.1 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Madrona, Fuse, Tola, Maveron
  • Research Centers and Universities: University of Washington, Seattle University, Seattle Pacific University, Allen Institute for Brain Science, Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, Seattle Children’s Research Institute
