Hypergiant, an Accelint company, empowers forward-thinking organizations with AI-driven solutions to stay ahead. Our geographic presence spans the U.S. and allied partners, with facilities in key Defense Technology hubs from Southern California to Washington, D.C. We provide large enterprises – across industries like the Defense Department, energy, healthcare and aviation – with bespoke technology solutions, cutting-edge advice, and deployment expertise needed to harness the value out of Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning. At our core, we are military experts, researchers and technologists who want to accelerate intelligence to deliver strategic insights that turn future challenges into today’s opportunities.

We are looking for a Senior Staff Software Engineer to lead the design, development, and evolution of next-generation command and control (C2) software systems. In this role, you will serve as a technical authority and cross-team architect, driving technical excellence across multiple agile delivery teams. You will shape architectural decisions, mentor senior engineers, and collaborate closely with leadership, partners, and the Department of Defense (DoD) community to deliver secure, scalable, and interoperable cloud-based solutions.

This role is ideal for someone who has mastered fullstack engineering and is ready to influence the direction of complex, distributed systems spanning web, backend, and data domains.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Architecture & System Design

  • Lead end-to-end technical architecture for multiple products or services, defining standards and ensuring scalability, performance, and maintainability.
  • Design system interfaces and integration patterns that enable reuse and interoperability across Hypergiant’s C2 portfolio.
  • Evaluate emerging technologies, conduct build-vs-buy analysis, and document key architectural decisions and trade-offs.
  • Partner with cloud and infrastructure teams to ensure solutions align with IL4/IL5 and FedRAMP security frameworks.

Technical Leadership

  • Provide expert guidance across front-end, back-end, and data layers — enabling high-scale, real-time systems.
  • Oversee design and implementation reviews to ensure code quality, security, and system reliability.
  • Drive modernization initiatives (e.g., containerization, observability, CI/CD optimization) across delivery teams.
  • Collaborate with product owners and technical leads to shape roadmaps and technical milestones that align with program objectives.

Cross-Team Enablement

  • Identify and champion reusable frameworks, libraries, and shared components across teams and programs.
  • Act as the connective tissue between architecture councils, delivery teams, and client stakeholders.
  • Provide leadership on incident response and system performance issues, leading root cause analysis and long-term resolution.

Mentorship & Culture

  • Mentor and coach engineers across the organization, fostering technical depth and independent problem solving.
  • Contribute to internal engineering standards, code quality guidelines, and best practices documentation.
  • Lead by example through hands-on contribution to complex or high-risk projects.

Required Qualifications:

  • 12+ years of professional software engineering experience, with at least 8+ years in full-stack web development.
  • Deep expertise with React, TypeScript/JavaScript, Node.js, and modern web architectures.
  • Proven experience designing and integrating distributed backend systems, and relational databases (e.g., PostgreSQL, SQL).
  • Demonstrated ability to lead cross-functional teams and influence architecture direction at the program level.
  • Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP)
  • Experience with container orchestration (Kubernetes, Docker).
  • Strong grasp of security, performance, and observability best practices in production environments.
  • US Citizenship required; must be eligible to obtain and maintain a DoD Security Clearance.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Active security clearance.
  • Experience leading systems in IL4/IL5 or equivalent classified environments.
  • Familiarity with geospatial frameworks (Deck.gl, Mapbox GL JS, GeoServer, PostGIS).
  • Experience with AI/ML integrations, data streaming architectures (e.g. Kafka), or event-driven design.
  • Background in C2, sensor management, or defense software systems.
  • Contributions to open-source projects or internal reusable libraries at scale.
