The typical starting salary range for this role is determined by a number of factors including skills, experience, education, certifications and location. The full salary range for this role reflects the competitive labor market value for all employees in these positions across the national market and provides an opportunity to progress as employees grow and develop within the role. Some roles at Liberty Mutual have a corresponding compensation plan which may include commission and/or bonus earnings at rates that vary based on multiple factors set forth in the compensation plan for the role.
Description
US Retail Markets (USRM) Technology - Product Tech is searching for passionate engineering leaders to work as Senior Solutions Engineers. As a Senior Solutions Engineer at Liberty Mutual, you'll provide technical oversight and engineering solutions to complex and strategic development programs. You'll oversee design reviews and frameworks for multiple product teams and large portfolios. You'll be responsible for the implementation of technology by developing clear, comprehensive, and integrated system, technical and/or product recommendations which support business plans and long-term strategies.
There are three Senior Solutions Engineer positions open in USRM Product Tech, one in each of these portfolios:
- Innovation Enablement - Telematics & Third Party Data Services: Aligns to Liberty and Safeco Telematics pre-bind and post-bind telematics programs & third party data integrations servicing multi-domain transactional needs. These two portfolios are merged intentionally as we grow and converge common data marketplace capabilities for broader uses cases.
- Innovation Enablement - Personal and Small Commercial Lines Risk Pricing: Aligns to multi-brand and multi-line risk pricing capabilities and rating program initiative delivery. We are executing against a plan on software product convergence and migration to a defined North Star target architecture. This includes an emerging plan for pricing modeling & design in coordination with our architecture and data science partners.
- Small Commercial Products - Over the next few years, delivery of new insurance products into the market for Small Commercial will be the most important work to drive profitable growth. We expect 3 to 4 critical business delivery value streams of work happening simultaneously (BOP, Auto, WC, State Auto migration). To achieve that, we need an SSE to support engineering teams across multiple departments.
Responsibilities
- Develops clear, comprehensive, and integrated system, technical and/or product recommendations that ensure consistency, security, maintainability and flexibility within a business capability domain or portfolio.
- Provides consultation and collaborates with technology leaders, business partners and peer groups regarding long and short-range product features. Provides oversight at the portfolio level influencing decision-making and prioritizing the engineering backlog for the programs and teams.
- Responsible for defining and leading engineering excellence guardrails.
- Contributes toward forecasts of business and IT trends to define the technical direction within a portfolio, project or Market.
- Educates and drives adoption of the well-architected framework in order to promote Operational Excellence, Security, Reliability, Performance Efficiency, Cost Optimization into cultural norms.
- Makes recommendations to improve process efficiency and effectiveness.
- Participates during incident management events and provides consultative recommendations on viable resolutions.
- Maintains collaborative and strategic partnerships between customers, vendors, business partners, and technology teams.
- Mentors staff to develop technical engineering capabilities.
- Shares expertise ensuring that teams are continuously improving and learning together to meet current and future engineering needs. Demonstrated through publication and speaking engagements or other indicators of external industry recognition of expertise.
Qualifications
- Advanced knowledge of agile development methodologies as typically acquired through a Bachelor`s or Master`s degree in technical or business discipline or equivalent experience
- 12-15+ years of related experience
- Extensive experience in software engineering languages and tools
- In-depth knowledge of diverse and emerging technologies and new architectural concepts and principles
- In-depth understanding of layered solutions and designs; in-depth understanding of shared software concepts and product features, as well as security minded
- Proficiency in product and system components of technical architecture
- In-depth knowledge of business operations, objectives and strategies; in-depth understanding of global business and technology trends and the financial services industry
- Strong influencing and consensus building skills, and the adaptability to respond to change quickly
- Strong communications skills, both written and verbal
- Ability to effectively collaborate with all levels of the organization with diverse backgrounds
- Proven experience with agile practices and expectations
- Strong desire to drive change, and ability to adapt to change quickly
- Strong consulting skills (relevant/technical); recognized as a thought leader within the company
- Ability to balance the long-term "big picture" and short-term implications of decisions
Preferred skills:
- Proven ability to code in modern technologies/languages and frameworks (Microservices, APIs, Java/Spring)
- Design and implementation experience with Cloud-native solutions (AWS preference) and event-based architectures (Kafka preference)
- Able to lead other software engineers in developing solutions
- Demonstrated advancement of excellent engineering practices across teams using industry measures (e.g. DORA) to quantify outcomes and inform where to drive improvements
- Ability to take Architecture designs and patterns and work with software engineers to implement solutions that fit within those designs/patterns
