About the Role:
The Associate Copy Editor will help produce digital publications covering private markets and emerging technologies. While the role is primarily focused on providing project support, the Associate Copy Editor will also serve as a lead on their own projects while developing their expertise and editorial judgments.
To be successful in this role, a person does not need a background in private markets or emerging technologies, but they should be eager to learn. This role is ideal for someone who is intellectually curious and loves learning about a wide range of topics.
This small but growing team of copy editors has been a part of the Publishing team within the Editorial department for four years. These copy editors support our Institutional Research Group, which creates bespoke research for PitchBook, as well as our Custom Research Group, which uses PitchBook datasets to create a range of content for clients. The team collaborates daily with graphic designers, project managers, research analysts and data analysts.
Primary Job Responsibilities:

  • Proofread and/or copy edit publications to house style without introducing error
  • Prepare documents for layout and design
  • Implement feedback in Adobe InDesign and Illustrator
  • Upload publications to our in-house content management system
  • Actively participate in team meetings and provide feedback on team initiatives
  • Develop an understanding of our content types and our production processes and tools
  • Develop an understanding of private market terms, concepts and arguments
  • Develop data literacy and an understanding of chart types and their use cases
  • Set individual goals on a quarterly basis that align with team, department and company goals

Skills and Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience
  • 0-2 years of copy editing or content production experience
  • Strong understanding of grammar and mechanics
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, especially the ability to provide constructive feedback
  • Meticulous attention to detail
  • Ability to self-manage time and efficiently execute on overlapping deadlines
  • Familiarity with the Microsoft Office suite-especially Outlook, Word and Excel-with the ability to quickly learn new software and systems
  • Familiarity with stylebooks, especially the AP Stylebook

Nice to Have Skills and Qualifications:

  • Experience with private markets or emerging technologies
  • Experience with content management systems
  • Experience with project management systems, especially Smartsheet and Asana
  • Experience with the Adobe suite, especially Acrobat, InDesign and Illustrator

The job conditions for this position are primarily remote at the moment, with voluntary attendance at PitchBook's offices, but they will return to a relatively flexible hybrid situation at a later date. Employees in this position use PC throughout the day and often make calls through Zoom. Limited corporate travel may be required to remote offices or other business meetings and events.
