About the Role:

The Copy Editor focuses on performing copy edits across all relevant PitchBook editorial content across the Publishing team's production. In addition, they also develop competencies across publishing procedures, content management systems and private markets basics. This role is responsible for editing and performing general quality assurance on PitchBook Editorial's analyst content (especially emerging technology research slide decks), industry reports and custom content.

The Publishing Team within the Editorial department at PitchBook works with multiple stakeholders, primarily research analysts, to create high-quality publications of cutting-edge private financial markets research. This team of designers and editors focus on excellence in storytelling across all relevant avenues, from visual design to innovation in depictions of data to strength and accuracy of narrative and details.

Primary Job Responsibilities:

  • Conduct copy edits of all applicable custom and PitchBook content; help conduct design edits in collaboration with designer of given piece of content.
  • Master basics of any content management systems (CMS) utilized by Publishing.
  • Develop collaborative relationships with all relevant research analysts and marketing personnel.
  • Learn publishing procedures for both digital and print; develop competency in best practices for copy editing and project management of editing loops.
  • Achieve basic fluency in Adobe InDesign & InCopy.
  • Master the variety of PitchBook Editorial content genres and their respective purposes and audiences.
  • Master private investment basics, e.g. terminology; definitions of private equity, venture capital, M&A; firm types in private markets.
  • Master applications of PitchBook Editorial design guide.
  • Master PitchBook Editorial style guide and applications thereof.
  • Help organize distribution of content internally for marketing and PR purposes.
  • Develop understanding of Editorial teams and their respective goals, as well as how that fits into PitchBook's company goals overall.
  • Develop competency in best practices for copy editing and project management of editing loops.
  • Develop competency in organizational systems for all Publishing products in content libraries.
  • Collaborate with other Publishing editors on maintenance of style guide and other relevant guides, e.g. citation guide.
  • Conduct copy edits of all promotional materials, e.g. landing page copy.
  • Ensure the accuracy, consistency and elegance of PitchBook content.
  • Coordinate with research analysts and custom research analysts to proof content.
  • Collaborate with advertising operations specialist to review sponsor-submitted content.
  • Generate ideas for improving and unifying writing styles.
  • Collaborate with Publishing Manager to form and oversee editing processes.
  • Review online content for PitchBook News & Analysis.
  • Support the vision and values of the company through role modeling and encouraging desired behaviors.
  • Participate in various company initiatives and projects as requested.

Skills and Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience required.
  • 1-3+ years of previous experience.
  • Excellent writing and editing skills.
  • Meticulous attention to detail.
  • Strong written and verbal communicator.
  • Familiarity with business, financial markets and financial terminology.
  • Experience with Microsoft Suite (advanced Excel experience a plus) and Adobe Creative Suite.
  • Ability to manage overlapping deadlines.
  • Proficiency with the MS Office suite including in-depth knowledge of Outlook, Word, and Excel with the ability to pick up new systems and software easily.
