Director of Communications & Content

Founded in October 2015, with headquarters in Seattle, WA, FlyHomes is a real estate and fintech company focused on making home buying seamless, transparent, and fun. Since the then, FlyHomes has continued to rapidly scale its team, focusing on helping buyers across Seattle, San Francisco Bay Area, Chicago, and new emerging marketplaces to purchase more than $300M in homes annually. 


About the job:


As the Director of Communications & Content, you are a master of brand voice and storytelling to bring
our brand to life by developing and activating the corporate narrative for FlyHomes. You have a roll-up-
your sleeves mentality, you are both strategic and execution-oriented, and you provide everything
from brand creative direction to copywriting for marketing assets. You have built messaging
architecture and have a keen understanding of what stories will resonate with reporters, and maintain
relationships with reporters from top business and tech publications. This role requires a high level of
creative vision, people leadership, and an innate drive for commercial business success. This is a
unique opportunity to build a communications and content team from scratch within an early stage,
high growth startup.


At FlyHomes You Will:

  • Lead brand voice across all consumer touchpoints, writing and editing messaging across the
    entire brand ecosystem
  • Drive the evergreen content brief process that results in strategic, effective, and award-winning
    editorial content development with our Creative and Production teams
  • Develop the message architecture and an editorial calendar for sustained media outreach
  • Build and manage FlyHomes’ relationship with top reporters from business, tech, and trade press
  • Create content amplification strategies to expand the reach of our brand stories and campaigns
    through existing or new channels
  • Elevate visibility for FlyHomes by securing speaking opportunities for executives at key events,
    pursuing awards for the company, and ensuring all executive spokespeople are aligned on the
    FlyHomes narrative
  • Handle issues and crisis communications
  • Manage external vendors, including PR agencies
  • Maximize the value of every media opportunity by amplifying content across channels


Ideal Candidate

  •  An editorial-driven writer who creates, refines, and elevates the overarching narrative and makes
    it all look easy (it’s not!)
  • Deeply customer centric, must understand the motivated home buyer’s experience and pain
    points, and how to speak to, inspire, and engage him or her
  • A consumer of content, a gifted storyteller, and a lover of words.
  • Able to see beyond the obvious and push for brilliant creative ideas – you have a sharp eye and
    can spot great work among many options
  • Believe brand success = commercial impact first and foremost
  • Low ego with a natural passion for building and love getting your hands dirty
  •  A natural coach and mentor – someone people are excited to work for
  • Have a sense of urgency – you want to “move fast, make progress and get stuff done”
  • Thoughtful and detail-oriented; a misplaced comma drives you crazy
  • Invested in, inspired by and passionate about FlyHomes’ mission and goals
  • Will operate as a strategic thought partner to the CMO


Qualifications

  • 8+ years experience working either in-house or at an agency. Welcome former PR Executives,
    Creative Directors, Editors, Strategists, Brand Marketers, and more...
  • Demonstrated success creating and executing effective marketing and creative campaigns
  • Excellent editorial and writing talent, specifically brand voice and consumer marketing
  • Dialed in to what’s cool, new and relevant and how to translate that for brands
  • Excellent communication skills, with ability to turn complex ideas into clear narratives
  • Experience working closely and fostering collaborative relationships with cross-functional
    partners, especially business owners and creative partners
  • Analytical ability to process and make decisions based on data and quantitative goals
  • Able to thrive in fast-paced environments, adapt quickly, and be highly flexible
